Thread: Swing Thoughts

    Swing Thoughts

What sortof swing thoughts do any of you players have? (really moreso interested in wat the better players think, but itd be interesting wat the higher 'cap boys are thinkin).

If im remembering right, i usually think "smooth"... thats probly about it, unless im focusing on something specific in my swing, then ill go with that (unless its something mechanical, thats saved for the range).

  2. there is another thread with the same question.

my anwser was "i am the best - i wanna win - do you wanna win? - i wanna win!"

kind of cocky, but it helps a lot and is a guuarantee against a push- you do that and believe it, your release will be very nicely.

helps me the mostb in tournaments on the first tee.,.....

  3. I mutter "Don't F it up" to myself. When I'm swinging well I really don't think about anything, I clear my head and focus on a target. When I'm striking poorly I try to think about keeping my weight on the right instep and maintaining the shaft anlge at impact.

Assuming I've already gone through my routine, and am now standing over the ball getting ready to make the shot:

Hold the club more in your fingers.Grip loosely.Keep arms connected.Weight out over balls of feet in athletic posture.Left foot turned out about 20 degrees.Ball position off left instep for driver, back a bit for this five-iron.Stick butt out.Keep chin up.Balance balance balance.Ok, now look at the target one more time.One-piece takeaway.Keep the clubhead low.Keep that left shoulder connected.Keep that left arm straight.Let the weight transfer happen.Point the left knee towards the ball.RIGHT KNEE BENT!Rotate.Rotate.ROTATE.Pause slightly at the top.Now push off the right side.Fire into a firm left side.Let the clubhead drop into the slot (where's the slot, dammit!)Pull with the left lateral obliques.KEEP YOUR DAMNED HEAD STILL!Wait, don't keep your head still.Just keep your spine angle.Focus on releasing the club.Turn your hands over.Follow-through with the club over your left shoulder.Up on your right toe.Pose.

Damn it, it's in the water!

  6. I once saw an illustration, I believe in GD,

which had a golfer with a light stuck in his back at the right shoulder. When at the top of the swing, that light would shine on the target provided a full turn was made. After I have done a thing or two to get myself lined up to the ball, I usually say 1-2-3-4 (my tempo thing), stay connected, now light up the target (with my own embedded back light). I then make my swing without any real thought in my mind. I believe in a swing where you coil the big muscles, and the arms, hands, and club are sort of along for the ride. But I also think Fleck is right to be aware of the clubhead during the swing. Rather than a thought thing, there is a feel thing going on between me and the clubhead and when I approach impact that feeling tells me to smash into the ball sort of with my right hand, what some call "right side fire."

These are things that lots of practice and play eventually turn into automatic stuff that happens without actual thought. I sort of remind myself, but hopefully, after triggering the swing by pressing down on my right heel a bit, I "just do it."

If you think about a lot of stuff over the ball, you are dead.

    Sincerely, Cypressperch

(I imagine some might think that one with such a problem of writing too much might stay over the ball too long. When it is my turn to hit, believe me, I take very little time at all. The more compact I have made my pre-shot routine, and the less time I take to pull the trigger, the better golfer I have become.)

I just relax and let myself swing smooth. If there is a fundamental problem with my swing, one thing I've been able to do is self-diagnos it and fix it. I'd say it works about 9/10 times within the first few holes. So if I have to fix something, I think about that.

But mostly, I really don't think anything.

Sure hope I don't hit that guy off too the right.
When asked how to put back spin on a i7,
Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?

Amen! And the lizard brain hibernates when I'm on the range.

That is to true, on the range I have a much easier time controlling it. I would fix the problem but Doc still hasn't sent me any of those extra long Qtips.

    golf swing

I have found the golf swing is a skill and one simply cannot pick up a golf club and swing without knowledge of how it is done.

I have learned the golf swing entails the execution of specific patterns of motion executed at precise intervals to power the golf ball conisistently down the middle of the fairway.

Who cares about consistancy...or power...or fairways? If I'm spending 100 bucks on a round of golf, I want to hit the ball anywhere and everywhere, enjoy the scenery when I'm out there, and get my moneys worth!
