Let it go brother. Don't bring yourself down to his level by making yourself look like a whiner. Your peers know the truth. This kind of thing wll come back to him...sooner or later.

Thanks Ez ... yeah this guy's a bona fide player. Plays off 2.7, won the champ - 36 hole strokeplay, everyone off scratch, but my gawd he's objectionable ..he just has a brusqueness about him. he didn't introduce himself Saturday, just launched into his spiel that I didn't have the longest drive - he caught me on the hop, I thought he was accusing me of cheating !!

Yep Dave that's the truth, I contacted the office just to confirm their receipt of my fax and they are showing me great support. They feel that he needs to be taken down big time - they unfortunately get the brunt of his guff as he marches in to complain to them on almost everything...

But be sure to have an "August 12th Captain's Day Long Drive Champion" shirt and hat made up, just to settle the score with that arsehole.

Keep us informed.

DaveE - surely you can knock up a decent graphic for Mr. Ireland. Then Dave can get a dozen T-shirts printed up for next Saturday and give them to his mates to wear in the clubhouse. This arsehole will get the message as the story gets out of what he did.

This game is supposed to be played on honesty and trust. Closest the pin is often an arbitary affair. I would say that longest drive is equally as arbitary. Unless there is an official there with GPS or laser, it should be left to the playing group to decide. It can be done on pacing out or just "golfing judgement". How many times have you heard, "actually I think that guy was 1/2" closer than yours".

That guy should just accept that. I know the type of character as I have seen them before, but I think it was very weak of the committee to decide without consulting you or one of your playing group.

I would egt to the bottom of this and make an issue out of it Dave. Looks like you have a lot of support to do so.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Get the T Shirts done. That would be outstanding!!! Make sure everyone in the club knows what a dick this guy is for pulling a stunt like that.

Sounds familiar!

That's why I don't play in tournaments any more. I had a similar instance where I was 30 yards past everyone and in the fairway with last four some behind us. During the customary luncheon afterwards, they announce the winners for longest drive, closest to the pin etc. The lunch tables were all setup family style, with 10 people to a table, so that most of the time you were sitting next to or across from a complete stranger.

When they announced the longest drive winner, I was flabbergasted that I did not win! But then the guy across the table from me stood up to collect his prize (which were supplied by the vendors, of which I was one).

When he got back to the table, I didn't what to say. He was giggling and then his buddy who was sitting next to him, said "aren't you going to announce that you took two attempts off the tee"?

When I heard that, I just stared at him but I never let on that he cheated me out of the prize. They both left before lunch was over.

The bigger issue here is that this guy needs to be curbed. His actions and pompus nature need to be squashed. I think you should try to embarass him infront of the membership. In any way possible. Maybe if you see him strolling into the grill room you can stand up and say "Ladies and Gentlemen look who it is. It is the Club's longest driver. He not only won the longest drive on the 18th hole but he did it without cutting the dogleg. That, ladies and gentlemen is a feet." Not those particular words per say but something to embarass him infront of his peers so he knows not to try that crap again.

This guy sounds like a right tw-t if he is the club champ he should bloody act like it.I was club champ last year and very proud to have won the title.I believed it was my duty to the club to behave in a manner which reflected the title.I played with a guy last year who was off 2.9 by the second tee i knew we were not going to get on.He starts to advise me on my swing, bloody cheek he is only 2 strokes lower than me and his course which we were playing was much easier than mine.
He notices i am not carrying a driver and remarks cant you hit a driver then.He is now pi--ing me off so i point out his course is much sorter than i am used to and i dont need a driver to play round it.So he tees off and i put a 3 wood past him this happens all the way round the course.Later on when we get in i find him talking to my captain he has complained i had played off the wrong handicap as i had completely kicked his a-se.I beat him gross score and matchplay.
How sad this person could not take defeat graciously. If he collected the flag and his ball was no longer marked he cannot claim the trophy as there is no way of telling where his ball was.The commitee need to explain their actions.Have a trophy made up showing a pair of upturned buttocks and present it to him at the next agm he may get the message.

Sounds like the club chumpion needs a little rule learning. Take up the cause and next time, check the club chumpion's bag. He probably has a mini lawnmower in his bag. You know, to cut the rough to look like he's in the fairway!!!

Hahaha, reminds me of an instance for me too. I drove the green, and the ball was setting against the back rough of the green. You know how it is sitting on the fringe, but the back of the ball is on the rough too. Anyway, the golfer I was challenging went to a school that has a lot of...influence...at the course, and though he was against the rough in the fairway, they gave it to him. *sigh*

Anyway, back on agenda, let us be informed, I want to see how this goes.
