Woohoo, I found them!

I finally tracked down the remains of my father's starter set that were probably last used 14 years ago or so. They are Spalding Tee Flites Reg. No. 4450 and consist of a 1-wood, 3-wood, 3-iron, 7-iron and 9-iron. The 5-iron was re-broken on the weld to put it back together during a swing by me and I don't think it's anywhere to be found.

The woods are persimmon heads, and the irons are blades.

They could use to be regripped.

I don't think the putter is anywhere to be found.

Should I regrip them and play a round with them some point?

I also took a picture of them.

Along with them, I found the 50° Hubert Green pitching wedge I bought to use with them back in 1990 or so.

That could be dangerous, shrapnel. I played last year with a set of Nicklaus Golden Bear blades and a set of Bobby Jones persimmon woods. It was fun. It's nice to have stuff like that though for the sentimental value.

Man, that driver head looks so small compared to my Adams driver.

The Wilson 5-iron I bought way back then to replace the broken 5-iron has been located as well.

2 woods, 3, 5, 7, 9I, a pitching wedge, I've got a set that could go out for a round at some point. What I really need now is to find one of those old putters, the Odyssey 2-ball just doesn't quite match with these somehow.

Found where the putter was hidden away now.

Awesome.

Play your next round with them. It will make you really appreciate technology I figure.

To me, the best part would be to play in with a couple of folks I don't know. Then play the clubs like they are what you always play. Don't tell them you are just ****ing around. Just to see the looks.

Shoot your billion then say, "Maybe I should get some new clubs."

Cool sticks RBB.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if I go out and shoot my best with them?

I'm a bit concerned that the 3-wood isn't in pristine shape. The head looks like it has undergone some swelling, and there may be a hairline crack at the back of the heel.

I had a dream that I took them out on a course last night. But before I could hit any shots, the dream veered off to the next sequence.

Further examination and a test by hitting a few balls has verified that the 3-wood is damaged. I hit a couple of balls right off the literal screws, and those balls were barely able to fly 100 yards. It's like trying to hit a baseball with a cracked bat.

Still, got a total of 5 clubs, and I suppose I could always go watching ebay for a decent deal on an old persimmon 3-wood to make the set feel a bit more complete.

Be careful with the woods. I still have three woods from a four piece set of Tommy Armour Persimmons. I was playing around with them and on one shot the 2 wood just exploded. No chance of fixing it.

I keep thinking I'll get them refinished but haven't done it yet.

Yeah, that's one of the dangers. The 1-wood is still in good shape as it got put in a much better place for all the years of packrat storage. I think it should be safe to use off a tee, but I would be a bit more wary about ever trying to use it from the deck.
