Quick course pics

Here's a couple pics I snapped off during my latest stint at Dakota Dunes (rated the best new course for 2005 in Canada). I posted some pics of Dakota before, but the upgrade a while back ate them and never spit them back out.

The one pic shows a deep bunker, my friend raking out after advancing his ball maybe 60 yards. Needed a gap wedge to get out. Moral of the stort, don't hit your ball into these true hazards. You pay the penalty, unlike on the Tour...

The second pic shows the undulation in the fairways. Every fairway is like this. Just grass seed spread on the natural terrain. Never a flat lie. That's my ball sitting about 185 out (the white stick indicates 150 yards to the center of the green). Striped it, woulda been 300+ on any other course, but it ended up being about 240 because the course is so lush and the undulations kick your ball around.

The third shows a wayward drive by a friend of mine. Needless to say, the opprtunity for a picture was OBVIOUSLY there....lol.

So this is like a Scottish "links" type course? I'm dying to play on something like that. But where's the snow?

It's totally links.

It's built on a set of post glacial sand dunes. Hence the name of the course. Which means, if you're outside the rough, you're effed. Total scruff and sandy lie. You're lucky to get it back in the fairway, IF you have a shot!

But it has some cool advantages. You can take HUGE pelts with your irons with almost zero resistance. And it's grown back in about 2 days. Super sweet.

If anyone is around Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and has a few free hours, play this course. Well worth the 15 minute trip outside the city to get there, I promise.

R35

PS...I bet you get more snow in Wisconsin than we do in Saskatchewan, WBL....lol.

That's a wide one because of the dogleg. Normally, you're looking at 30 yards in the landing areas, both in front of the green on par 5's and on par 4's. The worst of it is, the buggers stuck about 90 bunkers around the 275-300 areas, so big bombers get into trouble.

That course must have 150 bunkers on it, I swear.

Cash,

We can play from the end of April (normally) til late October.

Rock, they look eerily similar to my dad's old course - the Links of North Dakota - Nice pics, come south of the border sometime and you can play the links!

Very different from what I play out my way. The course I regulary played this year has a lot of trees and you have 2 choices, fairway or woods. A drive like your friend's would be a lost cause on most holes, if not OB. Those undulations would kill me though, along with all the bunkers, if they are as bad as you say. Most of the bunkers at the courses I play are pretty hard sand. I can usually play a cut shot with a fairway wood and advance it 200 if need be. Nice pics.

Nice. Looks like a lot of fun.

I know this is weird but what a beautiful sky you have there...the high wispy clouds...ahh the West in the summertime. I remember all my trips to Colorado and Montana and those beautiful western summer skies...

Taking nothing away from the course though...you've got enough sand to fill Saudi Arabia...
