If he will bring his arms in some he can widen his swing arc and get some more distance.

OBagain picked up on this I think. At the start of his swing watch his left elbow as it rotates clockwise giving him a very strong swing making it impossible to play a fade shot and more than likely giving him a hook.

One thing to help widen the arc is to get a stronger back turn. In theory, the back should be facing your target at the top of your backswing.
