One of those days today

I'm sure everyone here has had one of those days at one time or another. Nothing felt right and the results showed it. I went out this morning with the intention of playing eighteen and, maybe, reaching my elusive goal of 100. On the front nine, I had exactly four strokes that felt good...two with the driver and two with the putter. Unfortunately, the four good strokes were intermingled with 56 other awkward, non-rhymthic, less successful attempts.

After nine, I decided to cut my losses and came back to the house and spent the afternoon trimming shrubs. Maybe tomorrow will be different.

Then why not play the other 9? (The shrubs can be trimmed another day). I have found that I get better by continuing.

I went out this morning (with my son) with the positive thought of breaking 100 for the first time. So... yes.. the first 9 took 56. Not at all unusual for me. But on the 9th (a par 5) I took 6, you know, one of those that was very nearly a par. So I still hung on to that positive thought. Yes. I can do this.

The back 9 still had some of those stupid shots, but I ended up with 41 (including three pars) by the 17th........ needing a birdie of the par 4 18th to reach the 100. I didn't of course, but my goodness, a good drive and hitting that second shot onto the green over the pond and two putting for a 4 felt so damned good! 101 was a success!

Now all I need do is to trim a few off that first 9 on my next round. Heck! (positive thoughts)... If I can take 45 on the back 9 then I should try to do that on the front 9 and aim for 90 instead of 100! (Thinks... next time out, go to the range and do 9 imaginary holes of drives and pitches to warm up before going to the first tee).

Cheers
Rod

I can empathize with both positions here, "eff it I quit" and "Man I can do this" Glad to hear about the 101 that really was a good job, and its nice to know that some major landscaping got done today as well.

Normally I don't drink while golfing, but I have been there before when things aren't going well, I crack a beer or two and finish that back nine.
With no expectations other then having fun.

I thought about continuing; but things were just getting progressively worse. As I said in my original post, no rhythm, no tempo, no positive thoughts. Sometimes I can turn the back nine around; but I seriously doubt that it would have happened today.

I see that we have something in common, Rob. I am 69 years old and didn't start playing until I was 67. My best score, to date, is also 101.

I can identify with the first two John
But not the third.

Next time that happens to you, try doing what I do. Say to myself that the score doesn't matter, I've stuffed up the shots anyway, but I am here! (As in... on the top side of the green stuff). And then play the next few holes with nothing bigger than a 6 iron, and play steady and safe with every shot. (Hey, I can hit the shorter irons... mostly, but I still try hard not to leave myself with a shot of less than 100 yards). By the last few holes I might get out the 5 iron, and then the 3 wood again (I don't even carry a driver).

But one thing for sure, I'm not going home!

Cheers, Rod

I know exactly how these strokes felt, as I have had many of them.

I hate to keep sounding like a broken record, but I urge you to try a Tour Tempo player. It's small, with an ear bud, and you can use it at the range as well as in a non-competitive round.

I have one and I love it.
