On the board...Prize Manager...

My father is a member of the Professional Purchasers of Canada. They're a big time organization that basically is what the Engineering Association is to Engineers in Canada.

Anywho, he's acting president for this and next year and has taken on the role of organizing their annual golf Tournament for the upcoming year. Most of the golf tourney board has been doing it for years and many of the longtime help have decided to hand over the reigns.

Which brings up me. I've been named the tournaments Prize Manager. Which basically means I get to go out and buy prizes for Long Drive, Closest to the Pin, Straightest Drive and door prizes. The plan for this year is to distribute personalized golf balls for the years tournament, as well as engraved tees for every participant.

Prizes for Long drive are going to be sets of irons (something like Callaway X-18s or Taylor Made Racs), custom built and fitted for both ladies and men.

The closest to the pin will be a 10MP Digital Camera, most likely SLR.

Straightest Drive for both men and women is usually a brand name, high end putter.

Sponsors put up most of the door prizes (Cart bags, putters, simulator time, beer, travel vouchers, rain suits, shoes, drivers, ect), so that won't be so much of a burden.

There's usually around 380 people in this tournament annually, and last year (well, this year really) we had to turn away nearly 75 people because of the rush. We have people come from all over Canada to play in this...Halifax, Ontario, BC, Yukon, Manitoba and Quebec. So we're hoping we can get two courses for this year, which puts a bit more stress on me having to essentially double the prizes for two courses.

Rumour has it the prize budget for this year is around 10K.

I wonder if you spend 10 grand at the golf shop if they throw in Tour Edge Exotics fairway woods for free....

Any chance of a little corruption? I'd like a the new titty hybrid if so.

If you went into a local shop around here with 10k you could get something for yourself. No doubt about it.

Tourneys are a blast - I'm jealous. I'll be expecting reviews of any new gear that may "find its way" into your bag.

If you are spending 10k they should throw in a club with no problem.
We normally give 10-15% discounts to big tourneys like that.

That sounds like a tourney I'd love to play in. I've never heard of one with those kinds of prizes (that kind of money spent)!!! It must cost a bundle to enter that....

LOL.....ya, all my old shit. Meanwhile, I'm playing Mp-100's with custom PX shafts and a full bag of HiBore woods.

I'm gonna try and work in some wedges as part of the deal, on the side of course. I'd like to be as on the 'up and up' as one can be. It's a pretty prestigious tournament around these parts, the guy at the shop (my personal favorite shop) was ecstatic that we'd even consider him instead of the big box joints that love their exposure in these sorts of things.

The shop also owns a golf course just out of town. Maybe I can swing some free rounds.

It's 80 bucks to play. That gets you a round, a cart, unlimited range time, a sleeve of personalized balls, tees, markers, a towel, a team photo, door prizes and a dinner of all you can eat hip of beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, beans, salads and dessert.

Oh, and beers are 2 bucks. Plus the waitresses are all like 19 and super hot.

It's usually played here:

Deer Valley Estates

The tournament is invite only, but I'll see what I can do.
