Is a pear a part of the course?

OK.... nice fairway, lined with pear trees. At this time of year the pears are starting to fall.

My ball ends up 1" in front of a lovely juicy pear. There's no way of hitting the ball without splattering the pear first..... BUT... is the pear a part of the course (it grew on the tree that is!), or can I pick it up, take a bite, and then take my shot?

Some of the rules gurus may have the correct answer for you; but we routinely move pine cones if they are going to interfere with the swing. Of course, there are a lot of things that we do that may not necessarily be right.

My wife had this happen on labor day only it was an apple, so she picks up her ball walks over to me to grab my 8 iron. She is planning on whacking it to smithereens. To that I quickly replied, "Go ahead and use the rentals" she did, the apple blew up she replaced her ball, then came over and used my towel to clean the damn club off anyhow.

If the pair has fallen from the tree, it becomes a loose impediment and you can move it as long as you don't move your ball.

IF on the other hand, it is lying on the ground, but still connected to the tree and would be in your area of intended swing, you CAN NOT move it without penalty.

So if it has already fallen from the tree, and I'm assuming you are outside a hazard of course, you can move it just like pine cones, rocks, twigs etc. etc.

If it's loose you can move it just like a rock or a pine cone. If it's connected nope.
