If you need to hit the fairway or your driver is playing up a bit which club do you turn to? A hybrid, 3 wood, 2iron?
I'm currently on the search for my perfect goto club. I have tried a number of 2 irons the best of which has been a Callaway X tour. I have kept this in the bag as it is really good into the wind and when I'm swinging well I love it, but when I'm struggling with my driver i struggle to hit a 2 iron so it's not a goto club for me. I have also tried utility irons like the Cleveland LDi and the Nike version there not bad but fly way to high for my liking, I'm not a fan of the hybrid clubs in genral. My latest attempt was a Sonartec 2.5 3 wood nice club but I don't like the low profile of modern fairway woods it's a good club but not my goto club. I got to thinking when I was a junior i used a 2 wood and loved. It was a John letters wooden headed with steel shaft it didn't go very far but went straight as an arrow. I then decided to go and search ebay for a 2 wood. There aren't any 2 woods as such made anymore that i can find anyway. So I searched for an 11 or more degree driver with stiff shaft. Not a common combanation then I stumbled across this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1 a Makser TW-72 driver with 11.5 degrees of loft & stiff shaft. I took the plunge and got it for a mear £20 plus postage. I have never heard of Makser though so don't know if this was a bargain or not. I suppose if it turns out to be my answer for my goto club then it will be.
Anyway back to my original point what is your goto club from the tee when the driver is playing up a bit or your swing isn't quite in the groove?
