Not sure if 21 will be fun. Since im 18, im quitting smoking, it lost its appeal to me. I hope 21 doesnt mean i quit drinking.

Okay, don't take this the wrong way because it isn't a rhetorical question at all, I am truly curious.

What made smoking appealing in the first place? I've always hated it.

Honestly, the same reason its so fun to get beer underage, its wrong. It only took me about one ciggarrette to know what this would do to me, and I just couldnt stop. I have the patch, nicatine gum, and my bestfriend and mom are going to try and quit too. Here it goes boys.

Really? I drink things that taste good(at least to me), but smoking is aweful for you, stinks, expensive, and as far as my couple experiences(thought I might as well try it before I knocked it), tastes nasty.

Good for you for trying to quit though, you've got my support.

Yay, 1,200, goodnight shottalk!

You hit the nail on the head. Forbidden fruits are so often things that we reach for, even though we know in our hearts that there is no real reason do do so. I smoked for almost 30 years. The first time was when my friend and I snuck a pack of Newports out to a barn and smoked the whole pack. We both got sick as dogs. You would have thought that there was no way I ever would have smoked another cigarette as long as I lived, but nooooooo, I kept smoking. Kind of like: "dear God, I swear I'll never drink again", as you hug the vomit-covered toilet bowl. We humans are so good at fooling ourselves, and cigarettes are so addictive. That combo is just plain bad.

So good luck, Crossfire, with your effort to quit. I used the patch, and two friends quit with me. Remember one thing - if you REALLY want to quit, then keep trying. If you find yourself back smoking after you've quit for six months, then grab yourself by the collar, go down to your local pharmacy, and start the patch (or gum) again. Don't give up. One little tip that helped me (and this is going to sound REALLY stupid, but it worked) is to imagine that there's a big-ass spider (or whatever bug you find particularly distasteful) on the back of your neck whenever you feel a strong urge to smoke coming on. Grap that sucker, throw it to the ground, and stomp on it. For some reason that visualization really made the urge go away, and gave me the sense that I was fighting for my life, which of course, I was.

Happy Birthday!
