Happy Thanksgiving, Canucks!

Hopefully some Canadians still have some golf weather and can get out here on Turkey Day.

I love Thanksgiving but we have to wait another month. Go get you a turkey and have a great day.

Good question, David.

Yes. Canadian Thanksgiving is the same holiday, only earlier in the year.

Personally, I think it's so we can eat all the good turkeys and give those Yanks all the dog food ones.

As VTDivot touched on LAST Thankgiving...

"Both holidays share the same "celebration of the harvest" roots. The date difference is explained below. Personally, having celebrated both, I like the timing of the US Thanksgiving better. It's typically a 2 day holiday which is nice, it kinda opens the Xmas season also, which is nice.

***Google references - accuracy not verified****
In 1879 Canadian Parliament declared November 6th a day of Thanksgiving and a national holiday. Over the years the date of Thanksgiving changed several times until on January 31st, 1957 Parliament proclaimed….”that the 2nd Monday in October”…..”be a Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed”.

In 1939, 1940, and 1941 Franklin D. Roosevelt, seeking to lengthen the Christmas shopping season, proclaimed Thanksgiving the third Thursday in November. Controversy followed, and Congress passed a joint resolution in 1941 decreeing that Thanksgiving should fall on the fourth Thursday of November, where it remains."

Also, because we are further north, our harvest season comes a bit earlier than that in the States.
