Question How do you...?

How do you, for ppl here who can, break par?

Ive shot many a round at even par, and 1, 2 over. For some reason, i just cant get it down there (well, have done it twice, barely hanging on just for a -1). I pretty much only way im going to improve past this point is to start shooting in the 60s.... I feel my mental game has gotten back to the point i had it at when i was a 7 (back then i sucked with a great mental game, up until recently i was a good player with a shitty mental game, now ive balanced it out, anywayz...)

What sorta tips do you have other then the normal "one shot at a time", "play within yourself" sorta deals? Any things that help you, or are those things really all there is and its guna come to me eventually throughout all the practise?

Well, first and foremost, you're lucky you've gotten to play since you were seven.

As far as tips, there really isn't too much. It's such a thin line between above and below par that it just comes down to holing one or two more putts.

I've done it many times on micky mouse courses,6000 and under, but of mid tees at my home course at 6600 I have only done par,and only 2 over off the tippees,7100.Simply put,at over 6500 yards you will miss more greens coming in with 3,4 and 5 irons, so its all in the short game.

Chipping and then holing out,6 footers all have to go in.Nearest I came off the medal tees was when I hit 15 greens, but bogeyed the 3 I missed and made 3 birds.I only need a 30% up and down rate and I would have done it.

Oh come on!? Happy Gilmore, toss in some stuff from Tin Cup or Caddyshack,

Yep, it's amazing how many strokes putting can save. Shoot, say you're a scratch golfer and have 32 putts in one day, that's nearly half your score.

Played with a guy last Sunday Dave who attended a golf clinic hosted by Podge Harrington a few weeks back. Harrington's take on things was that you can only make birdies/low scores by hitting P/W into the green. So he murders the ball off the tee and takes his chance from middle fairway, light/semi/heavy rough. His creed is, better me long and askew than short and down the middle... sorta lends truth to Fred Funks assertion that the modern golfer is a long hitter and a good wedge player, and that theres a void in most cases in between ..
