Giving up accuracy for distance.

A lot of clubmakers today have taken the grooves off the clubfaces around the sweet spot areas. This is to reduce spin and allow the ball more distance with less resistance. What this also causes is less accuracy off the tee. I think most golfers are willing to give up a little accuracy for more distance. I was wondering if I am right in thinking that. Are you willing to give up a little accuracy for more disance?

If this distance I give up is anything less than one full club length then no and what's litttle less accurate? being in the rough? then no.
I don't worry about these things too much.

Depends on what you mean by "a little." I hit a decent amount of fairways, but I love the distance. And to be quite frank, if I want to give up distance for accuracy, I'd hit my TS off the tee.

Do you mean on drivers? I've yet to see a wedge with no grooves, nor irons for that matter.

Grooves on drivers are virtually useless, as you tee the ball up, out of the grass and wet. This also allows for less spin, which translates to more accuracy from a sidespin standpoint. Same thing goes with FW's.

If you impart too much spin on a driver, you increase the sidespin chances and utlimately increase the chance of a poor shot. Of course, no driver is safe from a poor swing.

Would I be willing to give up 15 yards off the tee for accuracy? I just did with my HiBore over my Launcher.

Would I do so with my irons? Nope. I already swing within myself for accuracy.

Personally, if i was concerned about distance loss because of a slice or hook, I'd work on my swing before questioning the placement of the grooves on the face, or lackthereof.

NO NO NO NO NO. Never. Id give up distance for accuracy in a second though.

I have to say though, id be willing to bet "most golfers" would give up accuracy for distance. Because most golfers arent "golfers" so to speak.

Well one does not constitute the other Sand. As I said, it depends on what you mean by "a little."

Frankly, on a driver I would, because if I want accuracy, I've hit every fairway but one since I got my 3Wood and used it, and I've used it a decent bit.

Nope, I want to bomb my drives, I kind of have to at this point, it's the only time I garner respect from the people I get sent out with. If you saw me putt you would understand.

I've given up a few yards by switching drivers. There a bunch out there I could hit futher but not too many with the accuracy and wokabiltiy. I get more distance on holes that have doglegs. I can cut them around, following the fairway now. Grooves are useless on drivers, they are not putting them on because the faces are now so thin it would compromise the head. Drivers have a face insert anyway, the grooves are on the part of the face outside the insert. Problem is the insert on the most forgiving drivers is almost the entire face now.

It's all about finding the right happy medium between distance and control. That's why you aren't swinging a 47" driver for example.

And why I didn't buy the TP in the end. It's a very nice club, but I know some days my driver won't be too hot.

Also, the 425 is plenty workable for every course I've played(from Chicago, to Alabama, all local, etc.).

I have a happy medium with accuracy and distance at the moment. I wouldn't give up distance for accuracy on my driver because I own a 3 wood for accuracy. Nor would I give up accuracy for distance because the courses I play are all tight and I hardly ever hit driver on them anyway

I have no problems with length on the courses I play. I would gladly give up 10 - 20 yards off the tee to be in the fairway. I would gladly give up the same yardage on my irons to be on, or even near, the green.

My problem is that my irons are just as irratic as my 3w and 5w. My driver is just absolutely all over the place. It's depressing.

I need to be a fool and let myself be parted from my money (i.e. lessons).

James

like said before, what is ment by little. 5-10 yards? absolutly. anthy more than that, becuase i already hit a lot of fairways, i would have to think about it a little harder.
