Played St.Annes old links yesterday.

What a great course. It was raining all night and all morning and we were expecting the course to be shut. It wasn't shut but was in immaculate condition because it's a links course it's built on sand so the drainage is superb. The greens were fast the fairways where rolling and the rain stopped when we got to the 3rd tee, the only sign of rain were puddles in the odd pot hole bunker. I recommend anybody who lives or visits the north west of England to have a game here over the winter months. We spoke to the old pro (been a pro for 57 years did 20 at st.annes old links) and he said that the club has never used a winter green in there over 100 year history.

The course is located about a mile from Royal Lytham St.Annes. It is a par 72 playing 6428 yrds from the yellows. Rather me woffle on trying to paint a picture just click the link to there website and check it out for yourself;- http://www.stannesoldlinks.com/index.asp

I shot 39 out and 39 in for a 78 net 70. Well chuffed as I had never played the course before and have not played a links course since last summer.

Beautiful course, great score!! It's interesting that the white is the longest and yellow is next. We have blue for longest and white for next. Yellow is the "senior" tees and red is the ladies.

I want to play this course!!

Hmmmmm.... We've got yellow for medals (longest), white for standard gents (next longest), red for ladies, black for juniors and "less able adults", blue for younger juniors (shorter, with no carries/trouble to get in to)

At this course
whites = comp tees
yellow = genral play tees
Blue = Junior tees
red = Lady's tees.

Normaly at championship standard courses Blues are the championship tees then the rest as above.

If you fancy a knock round here your'll have to come over on vacation and we'll hook up for a few rounds. Some great courses in the North west, Royal Lytham, Royal Birkdale & royal Liverpool on the open rotar and many good courses like St.Annes old links. On top of that you've got old Roman city's such as Chester if that sort of thing floats your boat. If not you've got Liverpool home of the beatles and Manchester home of United.

Will definetley consider visiting this, thanks for the recomendation!

Im playing Sherdely Park (St Helens) tomorow but it gets waterlogged quite badly and the winter greens are awful so this would be a nice change

Cheers.
