Thread: # of holes in one day

  1. # of holes in one day

Not sure if something like this was posted but talking about golf trips got me thinking what's the most # of holes someone has played in one day. Personally most I've played is 45 because the person I was playing with wanted to stop but I think I can easily play 54 holes assuming there is enough light.

Has anyone play 72 holes in one day? I would also like to try playing 24 hr golf one of these days up north.

The most I've played is 50. I know it is an odd number but it was on the course I worked, I never paid to play and that was the most I could fit in before dark. I would love to play a marathon golf day. They have a course in Idaho about 1/2 hour from where I live that will let you play all day in the fall for $25. I'm embarassed that I have never taken the time to go try it.

It was a few years ago before my back went out but my regular group played 54 on very long Saturday.

    Beer may have been involved.

72 would be hard at 4 hours per round it would take you 16 hours. I have done a couple of early morning 3 hour rounds but once that afternoon traffic hits I doubt you can get it in under 4 hours. The most in one day was 45 all walking and I was beat.

Hahaha, all 54 of mine were walking. I told you, I only walk.

Actually, if I golf alone, walking, I do about a 3 hour round.

54 is my most, a couple times, walking 18-27 and the rest in a cart.

  12. Eighty-one holes is my record. I was an Air

Force brat that was lucky enough to live right near the golf course on Showa Air Station in Japan. It was a very small base compared to Yokota and Tachikawa where most of the players came from. We had the course to ourselves, it being an American military course at the time, late 1950's. We started out early and after several rounds, we decided to see how many holes we could play. We played with seven irons and a putter the last few rounds, and were running from shot to shot. I was about thirteen years old. Forty-five and fifty-four hole days were fairly common. Ichikawa was the pro, and we got lessons for about a dollar an hour. That guy was like a Japanese Ben Hogan, down to the way he dressed. The course had two greens on each hole, one winter grass and one summer grass with all greens being very well bunkered with perfect sand. They had dozens of workers who hand manicured the fairways. You could get a cheese burger, fries, and a drink for less than fifty cents. Range balls were about a dime a bucket. My first three years playing golf were in this heaven. We had a junior golf team that beat everyone available to play. We had it all! As a young adult around twenty-five years old and in the Air Force myself, I was stationed at Tachikawa myself! I went to the course, and it had been turned over to the Japanese. It would have cost me well over a hundred dollars to have played! I did get to play for my squadron team when some officer was unable to, and we played at the Camp Drake course where I had played as a kid a few times. Showa was the place I wanted to play, but I did not get to. On the other hand, I had played thousands of rounds there, probably more than anyone ever had or ever will, at least during any three-year period. Strange, I shot in the low eighties and occasionally in the high seventies. Almost fifty years later, my handicap is finally down to a four (I have been as low as two, but never lower than that.). When we are advised to play without fear like kids do, that is very good advice. Sincerely, Cypressperch

  13. I played in a charity tournament once where you had someone else drive the cart for you and you just had to jump out of the cart and hit it. I played 100 holes in one day, which was basically the object of the thing, since people pledged a certain amount for each hole you played. I even shot 5 rounds in the 70's for the first 90 holes, on a par 70 course. By the second 18, my swing was really grooved. Needless to say, I was pretty beat the next day, but my swing remained really grooved for about another week or so.
