How cold is too cold to play?

For those of you who are used to the cold weather, is 40-45 degrees too cold to play? I'm in CT and it's supposed to be about that temp this Sunday but sunny. Thinking about heading out. Although those numbers are a high. I just got back from the range and it's low 50's but I was warm. I guess I'm answering my own question already.

Too cold for me is when the course is closed due to frost/snow. The only weather I won't play in is rain, and even then I'll only not play if it's not a tourney

That's going to be long underwear and sweater weather (with a warm jacket) for sure. I don't golf when it's under 55º F and then only if it's on a course I really want to play. It's just not fun and the ball doesn't go anywhere. I HATE playing in the rain and now always check the forecast before I go. Cold and rain together is really more of an endurance challenge then a golf game.

If there's going to be a wind blowing figure 40º with the "wind chill". Have fun...

Right now it's around 0º F in Wisconsin. A couple days ago it was -10º F. A foot and a half of snow on the level so golf is hiberating with the rest of us here.

I used to race snowmobiles in -20º F weather. 90 mph plus so what is that wind chill. We had the warm clothes and could do it but you SURELY couldn't swing a golf club dressed like that!!!

Yeah, it's not quite that bad here. I went to the driving range on Monday I think and it was either high 30's or low 40's. The wind starting picking up a bit and it was chilly. My hands felt it the most. Not pleasent. I guess I'll play it by ear. Seeing that I'll be walking on as a single, I'll just check the weather in the morning.

Looks like you're storing the clubs until spring, huh? I'll be in the same boat soon. It's been unusually warm (from what I hear) for this time of year in this part of the country. I figure I wanna try to golf one more time before there's snow everywhere.

If it's sunny I'll play down to 50F, but we don't have to do that very often here.

I think that should be fine as long as you dress warm. I'm in NY and this weekend is supposed to be 40 - 50, going both days.

I just wear long underwear and a multiple thins layers to stay warm.

I won an all weather suit in a tournament and at

about 35* with that & the black winter gloves it isn't too bad without the wind. Heck I went all the way to Florida last March and it was 35* and windy the first two days, almost froze by butt off because I only took the lighter clothes. Besides the course isn't too busy at 35*

The coldest I've ever played in was +4*C (~38F). That's cold. You lose alot of feel in your hands and a full fluid swing is tough.

I'd say 10*C is about my cutoff. I've played many a day in that, plus wind and rain. That sucks.

I was wondering about that myself. I am in Orlando and am playing tomorrow morning. It is supposed to be about 48 with 18mph at the time I am teeing off. It should get up to about 54 by the time I am done. One of the guys I was going to play with already backed out because of the cold. I think it will be fine by the time I get warmed up by the 3rd hole.

Funny story.

We went camping last summer at a park that has a beautiful course. Of course, it rain when we arrived and stayed brutally cold til the next morning when we had a tee time at 9am.

We tee'd off a little before 9, and it was about 11*C. On the 3rd green, it was +28*C and I was sweating like a pig.

Weather rules.

If it hits the low to mid 50's you should be fine. That's what it was today when I went to the range and it felt great. Long sleeve weather, but not too cold.

I don't know about the wind though. 18mph will not be fun. Forget about the cold. I'd be worried about where my ball is going.

Ol-Crank makes a great point. Courses aren't too crowded in colder weather and I can usually finish quicker. Supposed to be in the high '50s (F) here Sunday and I plan to play.

I agree. I am sure the course will be empty tomorrow being a weekday and the cold weather. When the temperature drops below 70 here everyone freaks out and stays home so we should have a nice quick round tomorrow.

i play in cold as low as 30, its not that bad. I just wear some under armour and a couple layers, you warm up quick if it isnt raining or windy. I wouldnt play in that cold if it was really windy or raining.
