What Are Your Favourite 3 Courses You've Played

So tell me what are some of your favourite golf courses and what makes them so good?
Mine are ;

1. Royal Birkdale , great layout, tough bunkers and fantastic greens.
2. Wallasey ,great links, some great views of the Irish Sea,real test of golf in the wind ( nearly always windy )
3.Formby ,another great course in the NW of England, great natural course and you have to be good and straight off the tee, excellent greens

Three favorite courses

are Cypress Bend on the Texas-Louisiana border, Big Creek in Mountain Home, Arkansas; Cog Hill #4 near Chicago.

For sentimental reasons Atoka Trails in Atoka, Oklahoma. My grandpa helped build that lake in the Great Depression and my mother is and will always be resting nearby.

I've never played any big (famous/expensive) courses. My favorites are:

Mequite Grove GC (Dyess AFB, TX) - It's my home course and is long (7000+ yards) but open, so you can make mistakes and still recover, but you are tested on and around the greens. Like most west texas courses, the wind is always in play (last Sunday, we had 40+ mph gusts).

Sunrise Vista GC (Nellis AFB, NV) - I was there on temporary duty. The base is right next to Las Vegas, and the course is literally attached to the flightline. Nothing like hitting your tee shot with a B-2 bomber taking off over your head. Has 2 nice 18 hole courses (4 seperate 9s, each named after a fighter jet). Eagle/Falcon is a typical tree lined track, and Thunderbird/Raptor is a long, wide open "links style" course (even though there's no water, the wind is always blowing and the course is dry and hard).

Tangle Oaks GC (Hawley, TX) - I like this little course (to me 6400 yards is little). They used to run a $10 all you can play special for military on Mondays, cart included. It's a very tight course, and if you are an average/above average length driver, you can get into a lot of trouble off the tee. The fairways bend at severe angles, so they don't have to be bad drives to end up costing you. The last 2 times I've played, the longest club in my bag was my 16* hybrid. There's a 120 yard par 3 that is as close to an island green as I've ever played, and the green measures maybe 1500 square feet with water in front and bunkers all around, so a 6 isn't totally out of the question for the average player (like moi).

St. Germain GC in St. Germain, WI. I don't know who designed it, but it's tree-lined, fair in length, raised greens, and just beautiful in layout amongst tall pines.

Trapper's Turn in Wisconsin Dells. Andy North was a co-architect. Three nine-hole tracks (Woods, Prairie, and Lake). Gorgeous.

Dunedin CC in Dunedin, FL. Donald Ross design. Was the PGA National course from 1945 until 1962, played by the likes of Jones, Nelson, and Hogan.

Harding Park in San Francisco where Daly and Woods had a playoff in the WGC.

Stanford Golf Course where some pro played and attended school. Yeah Woods, that's his name.

Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao Philippines. Nice high elevated course designed by Andy Dye.

You're right... I don t get out much. Last time I played out of state was some 10+ years ago on a business trip to LA... took an extra day and played La Quinta in Palm Springs. Going to Ft. Myers, Florida on Tuesday and taking my clubs. Going to Mesquite, Nevada in April. Retirement is lots more fun than working.....
