Unhappy Back problems.

Has anybody suffered from back problems? Does this sound like a simlar one to yours? Any wonder cures apart from time and rest?

I hurt the very bottom of my back this time last year. I took the dog and wee man for a walk and wee man fell over and wanted carrying back to the car. I carried him back and when I got back to the car the bottom of my back just right of centre was acheing bad. The next day when I tried to get up i creased in pain. The problem lasted about 5 weeks before settling down. The same problem occured about 3 months ago. I hit my driver at the 1st without warming up and felt my back go in the same place. This time it took about a week to settle down. The problem happened again on saturday on the 14th hole. I hit driver and hit a great drive, didn't feel a thing but when I got to my ball and did a practice swing with my gap wedge I felt a slight twinge. I carried on and completed the round with just a little discomfort, but yesterday and today the pain is back and worse than ever before.

It is a costant ache at the base of my spine just to the right. It hurts most when moving from lieing down to getting into a sitting postion before standing up. It also hurts/aches more when stood up straight. If I bend over slightly the pain subsides back to an ache. I can walk, even up and down stairs no real problem and when lay down can stretch my legs and arms up/out etc.

Anybody recommend any action to help over come my back problems?

Cheers MG.

I had something similar, and still do. Ive gotten pain meds from my doc because they arent going to go away (skiing accident... trying to do rails on an icy day, i dont recommend it). Get a doc or physical therapist to show you a few stretches you can do, they help ALOT.

Yes, i am only 17 and already have back problems... im not looking forward to when im older...

I've had a bad back for 20 years, ever since I got pissed and I did 100 sit-ups in the bar.I now have a prolapsed disk.I just take loads of Ibrubrofen when it flares up,and Anadin Extra intot he mix when its really, really bad.

I have to do stretching excercises everyday as well

Sounds like a plan to me. How long does it take to settle down with the tablets?

I think I could do with doing the same. I'm overweight and don't play high energy sports anymore and i'm to lazy to work out.

Doctors couldn't do nothing for me. My chiropractor successfully diagnosed sciatica and fixed me in 3 sessions.

My friend has given me the number for the one he goes to. I'm just worried about it being even more painful as he's pulling/stretching/clicking my back, what ever they do?

I take 3 and my back gets better pretty fast. I've had a degenerative disease of the spine (ankylosing spondilitus) for years and has calmed down in the last few years (usually quits by age 50). It inflames and eats away the discs between the vertebrae and they grow together (bone spurs) causing pain and no flexibility in your spine. I had to take some super drugs (nasty side effects) for years but now the Ibuprofen does good enough. And when that doesn't work a few trips to the chiropractor fixes the problem.

For awhile. Don't be afraid of chiropractors. (Of course mine is a GORGEOUS 30 year old blond and can "manipulate" me any old way she wants!!!).

don't overlook back support-seriously, with 30 years

of chronic lower back pain, with the usual celebrex, vioxx, ibuprofen, chiropractors and so on, at 65, last weekend I tried a back support and played 81 holes in 4 days and it was totally different. I've trained in the gym, lots of ab and back exercises, 25 years with chiropractor/acupucturist (with electric stimulation) and it was a $31 back support, (the black one they use in factories) that gave me the best improvement. It wasn't much to get used to either, after 5 holes, I forget I had it on. It fits under my pants and shirt so nobody knows.

Although Ibuprofen may work great in helping with the pain, and even better for inflamation, I would not recommend taking it during golf or other activities to kill the pain specifically in your back. It will do just that and you will be unaware the additional strain you are putting on your back and possibly overdue it. Once the Ibuprofen wears off you may find you are in worse shape than before.

Lower back problems since a teen. (60 years old, now.) Can't take Ibuprofen due to stomach issues. So... A couple of years ago read an article that suggested sleeping with a pillow under your knees. That will elevate the knees slightly. If you sleep on your side, put the pillow between your knees. Supposed to help your back and it has seemed to help me. There is one other thing that seems to have helped. I drive a lot of miles. Someone said that driving with your billlfold in a hip pocket would negatively affect your back. I began always removing my billfold before driving. That, too, seems to have helped.

The docs will tell you to keep heat off a back injury. I used to use a heating pad.... 'cause it felt good. Docs say use some of the icy hot ointments or simply an ice pack. No heat!!!

The other secret is to not let your spouse know when the back feels better! Milk it for all it's worth. The pain and anguish of the back injury is surely worth an extra couple of weeks of sympathy and getting her to do the household chores, don't you think?????
