My first season of golf, many questions...

So looks like my season is over as the temps will be dropping this week.
As many of you know, I've been playing for about 4 months, lowest score was a 95.

But, I have some questions...
1. Do you wear your golf shoes to the range?
2. How many golf gloves do you own? do you rotate? I seem to go through gloves real fast.
3. Do you always mark your ball on the green even if you're not in someone's line?
4. Where do you stand on the green when someone is putting?
5. Do you use a rangefinder? if so, can you use it at the range at night to pick up the flag?
6. If you tee off and think you hit your ball out of bounds, tee up another only to find your first ball, what do you do? was the 2nd tee shot a penalty stroke? (I ended up using my mulligan).
7. Do you allow yourself mulligans? say one per 9 holes?
8. What constitutes an "unplayable lie"? Ball in the trees and branches prevent you from taking your swing needed? or say the ball lands on the one spot by the cart path and is sitting on gravel?
9. I heard the PRO V1x were for golfers who have a fast swing speed, true or false?
10. Should a hybrid club be swung like a driver or iron?

ok, that's all I can think of right now. Any insight to any of the above would be much appreciated.

I play my hybrids like a mid iron, I had problems hitting them well my advice is keep moving the ball back in your stance until it ends up going straight.

ok, that's all I can think of right now. Any insight to any of the above would be much appreciated.
1) Yes. Practice the same way you play.
2) I own 5 golf gloves. 4 spares, and one primary golve. I do not rotate my gloves round to round, but some people swear by it. I use the same glove until its life span has come to an end.
3) I normally mark my ball so that I can clean it or align it. If I am playing a casual round and/or trying to clear the green fast, I do not mark it before I play.
4) Try to stay out of the players eyeline extended through the hole both ahead and behind the ball and keep your distance away from the hole. More importantly, stand still.
5) Yes, I use a laser range finder. Best $200 I ever spent on a golf accesory.
6) The 2nd ball is a provisional ball if you so declare it. If you find your first ball you must play it if it is indeed in bounds. You do not have a choice, and there is no penalty for hitting the provisional ball which you would then pick up. If the original ball is OB, the OB penalty applies and you play the provisional.
7) Normally I do not play with mulligans, but during a casual round when I am not keeping score for handicap purposes I will consent to mulligans. Typically, I have played with either 1 per round or 1 per 9 on tee shots only.
8) Unplayable lie is determined by the player. You may at any time declare an unplayable lie and drop with a penalty according to the rules. Any ball you decide is unplayable can be called an unplayable lie, even in the fairway or on the green. If you are looking for a free drop with no penalty, you have to meet the conditions in the rules of golf or local course rules. There are many ways to get a free drop, check out the rule book on usga.org for details.
9) Yes and no. I am not a huge Pro-V1 expert, but the V1x was created as some golfers (typically higher swing speeds) found the V1 a little to soft or had too much spin. As for which one works best for you, you have to try'em both and find out which one performs better. Even with a slower swing speed, you may find the V1x more suitable to your game or sense of feel.
10) Swing your hybrid like a mid iron. The Sonartec website has some good information on this.

Hope this helps.

1. Do you wear your golf shoes to the range?

Yes, I generate a lot of torque and swing speed and if I didnt I would slip. I wear my older shoes to the range though and the toes wear out fast for me.

2. How many golf gloves do you own? do you rotate? I seem to go through gloves real fast.

If you are going through gloves real fast then you either have full cord grips ro your grip is too tight. I have 5 golves. 1 range glove, 2 on course gloves and 2 new ones ready too go. I transition my on course gloves to the range gloves as they get a little worn.

3. Do you always mark your ball on the green even if you're not in someone's line?

Yes, so I can align for my putts.

4. Where do you stand on the green when someone is putting?

I always stand out of there peripheral vision and so they cannot see me or my shadow.

5. Do you use a rangefinder? if so, can you use it at the range at night to pick up the flag?

Yes, and sometimes it works at night and sometimes it doesnt.

6. If you tee off and think you hit your ball out of bounds, tee up another only to find your first ball, what do you do? was the 2nd tee shot a penalty stroke? (I ended up using my mulligan).

The second shot is a provisional and should be picked up once your 1st ball is found. No penalty. I never play a mulligan.

7. Do you allow yourself mulligans? say one per 9 holes?

Never, they are not legal when recording you score.

8. What constitutes an "unplayable lie"? Ball in the trees and branches prevent you from taking your swing needed? or say the ball lands on the one spot by the cart path and is sitting on gravel?

Depending on the situation, I would play my ball from any condition I legally can so I do not lose any strokes since I can at least try to advance my ball to a better lie.

9. I heard the PRO V1x were for golfers who have a fast swing speed, true or false?

Pro V1X's are lower spinning balls, these are harder to work than the Pro V1's.

10. Should a hybrid club be swung like a driver or iron?

Cant answer I dont have any hybrids.

1. Do you wear your golf shoes to the range?
Yes.
2. How many golf gloves do you own? do you rotate? I seem to go through gloves real fast.
2, usually, but I'm pretty easy on them. Try loosening your grip.
3. Do you always mark your ball on the green even if you're not in someone's line?
Yes, pick it up, clean it, and set it back down with the literature lined up with my line.
4. Where do you stand on the green when someone is putting?
Out of their line, out of their line past the hole, and not behind them. Usually reading my putt if possible.
6. If you tee off and think you hit your ball out of bounds, tee up another only to find your first ball, what do you do? was the 2nd tee shot a penalty stroke? (I ended up using my mulligan).
The second shot is not a penalty stroke, you simply pick it up and play your first.
7. Do you allow yourself mulligans? say one per 9 holes?
Nope.
8. What constitutes an "unplayable lie"? Ball in the trees and branches prevent you from taking your swing needed? or say the ball lands on the one spot by the cart path and is sitting on gravel?
If the cart path actually impedes your swing or stance, you get relief, possibly gravel is the course says so. Generally an "unplayable lie" is relative to the situation.
9. I heard the PRO V1x were for golfers who have a fast swing speed, true or false?
The x, yes.
And there ya go.

They pretty much got it all.
1. Yeah always practice liek you play
2. If you go through golves fast, that usually means you regrip the clubs multiple times during you swing, try to keep an every grip presure
3. Yeah you want to clean your ball off so that it will roll better
4. Try to read your putt if possible without standing in their way or in direct sight. I keeps things moving
5. Nope, cant tell you much about them, cause they are illigal in all the tourneys i play
6. what he said, but if you play the second one and then find the first one you have to take the penalty strokes and finsh the hole with the second ball
7. Not in a serious round, but practicing on the course is so much more benfitial than on the range. I recommend playing evry once in while where you dont keep score and just drop extra balls for practice
8. You get to decide what is an unplayable lie. If its a shot you dont want to hit, then you can take yoru stroke and move it
9.The x is for higher swings speeds, works best if you driver club head speed is over 105.

Make sure you have fun playing and practicing, cause thats what its all about.

IMO
1. Do you wear your golf shoes to the range? - yes, gives me the same feel as on the course
2. How many golf gloves do you own? do you rotate? I seem to go through gloves real fast. - 12, and rotate them 3 at a time for a couple rounds each then switch. When you start you go through them faster usually, until you learn not to strangle the club and hitting hundreds of balls on the range is not only pointless if you have no set goal but hard on gloves.
3. Do you always mark your ball on the green even if you're not in someone's line? - Not always, although if it is in someone elses line of sight and I haven't, I ask if they would like me to mark the ball. Especially if it requires walking around a minefield of marks. Usually good to mark it though, so you can clean the ball.
4. Where do you stand on the green when someone is putting? - Well off to the side and try to get out of the sight of the putter, preferably behind them (behind them, not behind their line)
5. Do you use a rangefinder? if so, can you use it at the range at night to pick up the flag? - Yes, never tried at night, although I usually aim at the ground and not the flag.
6. If you tee off and think you hit your ball out of bounds, tee up another only to find your first ball, what do you do? was the 2nd tee shot a penalty stroke? (I ended up using my mulligan). - Call a provisional prior to hitting the second. If the first is in bounds play it, if it is not play the provisional in which you lie 3. If it is in bounds but unplayable, you are supposed to go back and retee again, although on public courses in a friendly round, sometimes better to respect the people behind you.
7. Do you allow yourself mulligans? say one per 9 holes? - Only if I am not concerned with score and practicing, or if I am playing competitively and they have set rules for mulligans.
8. What constitutes an "unplayable lie"? Ball in the trees and branches prevent you from taking your swing needed? or say the ball lands on the one spot by the cart path and is sitting on gravel? - and unplayable lie is any lie you feel is unplayable. But if it is do to a cart path or man made structure you may be entitled to free relief as opposed to taking a penalty.
9. I heard the PRO V1x were for golfers who have a fast swing speed, true or false? - True
10. Should a hybrid club be swung like a driver or iron? - It vairies from person to person, although I would say not likely like a driver, possibly a fairway wood. Should be swung to obtain the best results, I will sweep down in some cases and hit down like an iron in others. Drivers should be hit with an upward motion, if not on a tee this could lead to many topped shots. There have been a couple instances where I have hit it like a driver off the tee but rarely.

1. Yes, my teaching pro recommends it.
2. I go through them fast. I just have about four for the summer.
3. Depends on who I'm playing with and how fast we want to go.
4. Somewhere out of their line and don't move.
5. Yes, but a cheap one so no on second part.
6. Depends on what your partners want you to do in casual play.
7. Not usually.
8. Ask you partners how they want you to play it.
9. Try one. Don't go by that. If it's no better for you then a cheaper ball don't waste your money.
10. Usually an iron but there are hybrids made more similar to fairway woods which would be swung like them. Example Nickent ironwood and utility are both hybrids but the ironwood is more like irons and the utility is more like fairway wood.

1. Do you wear your golf shoes to the range?
>> No. Flip flops or tennis shoes & change when I get there.

2. How many golf gloves do you own? do you rotate? I seem to go through gloves real fast.
>> I usually keep two on my bag that are in good condition. Same gloves, but keeps me from having to use one that has holes in it.

3. Do you always mark your ball on the green even if you're not in someone's line?
>> Yes, unless I'm just playing round with one othe person for fun and trying to get through quickly. Just because it isn't in their line doesn't mean they can't see it out of the corner of their eye or my ball doesn't need to be wiped off or lined up.

4. Where do you stand on the green when someone is putting?
>> Somewhere near my ball, but not directly behind them and not in any way in front of them. As long as you are at least 10 or 15 ft away, and standing still, you should be ok.

5. Do you use a rangefinder? if so, can you use it at the range at night to pick up the flag?
>> I don't use one.

6. If you tee off and think you hit your ball out of bounds, tee up another only to find your first ball, what do you do? was the 2nd tee shot a penalty stroke? (I ended up using my mulligan).
>> Not sure if anyone else mentioned this yet.. but you have to announce that your second shot is being hit as a provisional.

7. Do you allow yourself mulligans? say one per 9 holes?
>> No. What's the point? However, if we just show up to the course & don't have time to hit any range balls, we usually allow taking 2 tee shots on the first hold if we want.

8. What constitutes an "unplayable lie"? Ball in the trees and branches prevent you from taking your swing needed? or say the ball lands on the one spot by the cart path and is sitting on gravel?
>> If you can't hit it, you can't play it. Simple as that. It's in a tree? So what. If you can hit it, it's playable. Let me rephrase that - if you THINK you can hit it and you choose to swing at it, it's playable.

9. I heard the PRO V1x were for golfers who have a fast swing speed, true or false?
>> im sure someone else has commented on this

10. Should a hybrid club be swung like a driver or iron?
>> I don't use hybrids so probably shouldnt comment
