Sure is Boring This Time of Year

Yeah, I know... it's X-mas and everyone is out shopping yadda yadda but it seems all the comedians left here and nothing funny is going on right now. And nobody is caring what the ho's are buying (!!) these days either (understandable). I put up jokes and find they're two years old. I think the scrooge is coming out in some of us (!!) or something. Anyway, someone make me laugh or insult me or something!!

Why don't you just go out and play today?

It's going to be close to 50º today in ChiTown. We played 18 yesterday at 1:00 PM and we were done by sundown. Maybe the last time for this year. Hopefully the winter of 2006 will be like last year.

Well no but maybe I should. I'd probably be pretty good at it. (Wonder if they'd keep my job open until spring?)

Bored??? Bored??? What do you mean? Christmas time and no one wants to talk golf! Winter time and it's cold... and will remain cold for the forseeable future! I'm already out of shape. My short game won't stay sharp without playing! I hate winter!!! I hate this game that can be so seasonal!!! I hate anybody who lives in moderate climates where you can play year round!! This is my time of the year to just hate... MERRY blankin' CHRISTMAS!!!

I relate December, January, and February as my PMS time. PMS... Play Mostly Stops!! Why wouldn't anyone who plays this game be hard to get along with at this time of year?

Assigned to a project, this past year, that is 5 hours from home. Stay in a motel during the week. Rec'd 15 inches of snow 2 weeks ago. The desk clerk at the hotel actually made fun of me lugging my golf clubs in and out of the hotel room, through the snow. If she wasn't already handicapped enough, she would have felt my sand wedge up against her noggin! I'm not going to leave 'em in the truck when it gets into single digits at night! I'm not going to leave 'em in the motel room and have some greedy housekeeper help herself and find 'em on ebay! I'm most certainly not going to leave them at home and have my "darling" wife of 40 years put 'em out for the next garage sale! Bah Humbug! I'll carry my clubs through the snow... any time I want to carry my clubs through the snow... They're MY clubs! Just because carrying them through the snow would seem to suggest my fragmented intelligence... I play golf, da**it!!!

Tell stale jokes! I apologize because I don't generally check that thread. (Which thread has any jokes?) I'll join you in telling stale ones... cause at my age... I can't remember what someone told me yesterday, let along in the past! That's the beauty of growing old. I can laugh at old jokes 'cause the memory is one of the first things to go! To me, all jokes are new!!! If someone else doesn't like the jokes... If someone else frowns on your jokes... If someone else takes exceptions to jokes told on this DB... See the paragraph above which describes the PMS we golfers are feeling this time of year. If we in climate challenged areas have our access to golf severely restricted, don't take away any more of our fun! Get over it and laugh with us... don't laugh at us. Our sand wedges are well poised to eliminate your scowl, should you see fit to become concerned over the jokes we tell!!!!

Oh, did I say... Merry Christmas and please have a great holiday season!!!!

Well, I don't know if you'd call it work but I get payed for it! Here in the states we're forced to work until we can't move anymore. Then we can retire (see post on crappy health insurance in the US)....

Used to have a guy working here (head of the Quality department) that was over 70 years old. He couldn't remember anything and would always ask "what do you think about that" and then use what you said for his answer. He had worked for a company that downsized and took his whole huge pension and dropped it. He only had social security left and couldn't afford the "managers" lifestyle he was used to (and had planned for) so had to go back to work. It was sad. He went with a group from a "meeting" point to a customer and they all went in one car. When they got back to the "meeting" point his car (locked) was still running. He never shut it off and it ran all day. Luckily it was a Toyota.

First, just how long of a drive is it to get from Kansas to your course in... where... Ireland? That's a suburb of New York, isn't it? Isn't Ireland a lot closer to the equator than Kansas?

Our courses are still open here. WBL's may not be up in the NorthLand. I have played at least 27 holes each of the past 2 weekends. Two weeks ago, we played 9 holes on Sunday morning with wind chills in the teens. I'm getting too old for that!!! This coming weekend highs are supposed to be in the 20's and a possiblity of some flurries. Kids coming for Christmas and I've got to be "good" and give the wife a hand around the house anyway.

Hopefully, you take my writing as an attempt to humor WBL and other poor snowbound souls. Go play golf and leave us ol' hacks the privilege of cryin' in each other's beer. LOL
