Golf necessities...what are yours?

In other words, if you were to play a game with only four clubs what would they be? I've been asking myself that because I'm going to start carrying those four in my car at all times that way I can hit 9 holes whenever I get a chance during the weekdays. I'm thinking the following:

Putter - for obvious reasons
56* wedge - seems to be the most versatile wedge for me.
7 or 8 iron - can't decide on which one but leaning toward the 8
5 iron or 3 hybrid - don't have the hybrid yet so I'm not positive on that.
The 5 is the longest iron in my bag I can hit consistantly.

4 clubs? Super easy...

4 iron
7 iron
53* wedge
putter

I've played multiple rounds with only a 7 iron and a putter as a way to better understand course management and the gift of distance. Try it, it works.

Podge Harrington is in Vegas for his caddie's stag (bachelor) party ... needless to say theres a game of golf involved ... rather than Podge giving them shots I believe he's gonna play the whole round with just a 7iron

I think I'd rather have strokes. LOL.

I'll bet this would be fun. I think I'll suggest to my regular group as something different to try over the holidays.

3 hybrid
7iron
PW
putter

7 iron only. You'll be blown away at your scores at the end of the round.

I shot +6 on the front 9 off 11 one time with only 5i, 9i and putter. My 4 clubs would be:

Hybrid
5 iron
9 iron
56* wedge

Hybrid for putting as I putt nearly as well with it as my putter.

Hmmm... I'd have to take my PW since it has an 8 bounce, could get out of rough and bunkers as well as chip with it. Next would be the 7i, I can work the ball either way at that loft and still maintain good accuracy with 1/2 and 3/4 shots. For tee shots I'd go with the 5W since it's the longest club I can also hit consistantly off the deck. Last of course would be the putter.

7 wood - Tee or fairway, keeps me in contention on the longer 4's and the 5's.
6 iron - close it down and hit it hard or open it and sail it high
Pitching wedge - from 110 in can pitch, chip... good to get it close
Putter - Still can't master putting with a wood or longer iron. One of the regular playing partners uses his 7-iron to putt with almost as much as his putter.

Putter
23* Baffler 4i/R
7i
52* GW

Also would represent the 4 clubs I am most comfortable with on the course, and are the most versatile for distance ranges. By far the most used clubs in my bag. These likely account for about 75% of my shots already.

My old home course I would walk 5-9 holes with just a 7 iron and a couple balls. Even putted with it. It was in fact a shorter course, but I did have some pretty decent scores. On one occasion I was even par after 5 holes with one birdie and one bogie, I believe I finished 4-5 over on that nine, and only had a double bogie on one hole when I managed to find a deeper greenside bunker. The person I played with did the same and we played at about the same level, he finished better than I did. Really helps teach you course management, bump and runs, and in my case staying away from greenside bunkers.
