Balls

Get your mind out of the gutter please.

What balls do you use & why?

I played the Callaway HX Tour 56 for the first time this weekend and I was pretty surprised with them. I still had good length off the tee, and these balls had more spin that any I have played in a long time. Too bad they are $40/dozen.

Also, where do you buy them? Anyone buy them off e-bay? I bought some ProV1's on ebay.. about 50 of them for a good price. They were refinished balls, and I knew that when buying them. Unfortunately, they were rather poor quality and seemed "dead". They were probably dug out of the bottom of ponds & about half worthless in my opinion. I'm a big fan of E-bay, but don't want another batch of 'dead' balls.

Standing, the Nike One Black.

I'm ever tempted by the HX Tour though, just getting out and playing them is the hard part.

Pro v1. stops nicely on the greens, flies just as far as any other ball I've used and great feel on chipping & putting.

I don't buy them, just steal from my partners' bags...

Pro V1X's are my new favorites, I received two dozen as christmas presents and like them better than my Pro V1's.

I've shot my best round with a PRO V1.

Last weekend, I tried the HX Tour 56 and didn't notice too much of a difference between that and the PRO V1. (only been playing a couple months now so hard to tell the difference).

I've heard, not sure if true, that the HX Tour 56 is similar to the PRO V1x in that you get better results with a faster swing speed. My ss is only about 90 with my driver.

I've also used Pinnacle Exceptions and have no complaints about them.

I use the Pro V1x. It feels great off my driver and irons, and gives me good distance. (My ss is 110-115.) I haven't really tried any others in the last couple of years though.

Callaway HX.56 Tour.

That's all I play. Nothing else.

For $16-20/dozen, you can get new Nike Power Soft/Distance: great fot the money.

Occasionally a deal comes along. A few months back Dicks had a sale on new ProV1s and ProV1xs for $25/dozen. I bought 4 dozen and posted it her on Shottalk but I don't think anyone else jumped on it and they were sold out in 2 days.

Don't worry. You can buy them as "one hit wonders" online in a couple of weeks...

Johnny, the hx 56 is more like the v1. the regular hx is more like the v1x.

I think...

I have always been partial to ProV 1s and ProV 1Xs. I just like the look of the ball, very understated, and their stopping power on short pitches is what I love the most. I can get a dozen "experienced" Pro Vs at my BX for $9, or hunt through the used ball bin in my pro shop for 50 cents a piece.

Then again, I can play just as poorly with a Titleist as I can with a Top Flight or Pinnacle.

I just tried the Titleist DT Solo for the first time this weekend after they were recommended to me by people on this forum because of my slower swing speed. I played two rounds with them. I was very surprised. I hit the ball well with my woods and irons but the real surprise was how well they played on and around the green. I was able to pitch and chip the ball well and took only 34 putts one round which is way under my average. I am definitely going to stick with them.
