Hi I'm new.. Question to up staters

Hey guys, just joined the forum this past week.

I've found this site to be very informative.

anywho... i just moved to RI from NC and not really liking the weather here even w/ the "unsually nicer weather."

so what do you guys during winter months? put the clubs in the closet and let them hibernate?

I picked up golf earlier this year so this is my first "off season." i was wondering what you guys do when you can't go play outside?

thanks and happy new year!

You'll see that many on this forum will buy about 3 sets of irons and 6 new drivers.

The last few days I have been hitting a few iron shots off the frozen ground. Hey, I was going to get my lie angles checked anyway. Took a couple videos but trust me, you dont wanna see!.

I haven't played a round since..Late October. Maybe EARLY november. I hate it..

You'll get used to it. I played yesterday afternoon. Where are you at? I'm in Providence so if you are looking to play I know a lot of courses with good winter rates. I just put on the long johns and go out and practice. I played for nearly 4 hours yesterday, course basically to myself, for $15.

Go to the range twice a week

I putt every night on the carpet

I have a weighted club in the garage and swing it for 5 minutes every day

Work out with hand grips and weights every night

play once in Dec,Jan and Feb

Practice chipping for an hour on my day off

thanks for the reply guys. I live in Warwick. not too far off from providence. i really don't mind cold, but didn't know whether the courses around here are opened or not due to the cold weather. In NC the course shuts down once the temp dips below 35F in order to preserve the green.

i go to eagle quest dome most of the time, but i feel too constricted.

i do swing in my back yard w/ momentus, and have set up putting cup in the basement, but i wanna go play or go to a range where i can at least see where and how far it's going.

ezra: i'm heading down to NC to get rest of my stuff from my old place, but i'll be back on Sunday (Jan 7th). May be we can go play together? i might slow you down a bit though since i'm still a beginner (~25 handicap)

Yeah, for sure. I went to that golf dome a few times when I started playing. It's horrible. Hit the wall with like a PW. Trust me, you won't slow me down much, I hit my fair share of crap shots. I have all sorts of places I can show you. Up over the line in Seekonk MA there is a huge range with mats, heated booths, huge grass area to hit off and tokens for large buckets are 1 for $6, 2-$10 and 5 for $20. Most of the courses are open under winter rates. I prefer to hit the course with a bag full of older balls if it's above 40. Oh, and Golfer's Warehouse is right up the road from you too. LoL. That's my favorite. Feel free to PM or Email me anytime. There are a few other guys on here I play with time to time also.

Sure. I've got a lot of swing work planned so I'll probably suck for a few months, you'll probably kick my butt. I got out again this afternoon from just before 2pm till dark.

Up here they usually close em for 3 weeks in febuary so the course can rest. But besides that they're usually open at normal hours, unless there's a frost delay, but they stop once its cold and stays cold.
