Thread: What would be the greatest golf instruction book of all time?

Thumbs down What would be the greatest golf instruction book of all time?

There are many very good golf books out there, but I think the one that needs to be written hasn't. I'd love to see a book that actually got results. One that gave clear cut directions that anyone could follow. One that gave the reader hope, and confidence. I think this book can be written!! I am anxious to hear what you guys think would be the "greatest book".

  2. I think a book that explains why things happen when the club hits the ball. Then explains that a perfect swing isnt rquired to get the job done. MOst books get way to technical, and want to put average joe's in positions they just cant get in to. There are many ways to skin a cat, we need a book that addresses that.

Also, a book that takes the whole game into account rather than just the full swing.

Scotty Cameron American Classic III Heavy Flange

  4. The basics from the stance, ball position, grip. The "start" position.

    Simple swing.

What to look for when hitting slices, hooks etc.

As what has been previously said everything is too complicated. I can't believe it should be like that. Thanks!!

  5. Simplicity and lot's of visual images are key for me. I just picked up Hogan's 5 lessons. I've read a lot and watched a ton of videos. Hogan's visuals and simplicity are just so concrete, I can grasp it and mimick it.

I'd like to see something that explains not only the basics but goes deeper as the book progresses. How to proprerly strike a 3iron, how to fade and draw a shot, hit a knockdown, a flop, a skip-stop. How to hit a higher trajectory shot, put spin on, take spin off. Hitting a bunker shot, long, standard, running, spinning, explosion. Putting grips, alignment, stance, stroke, reads, speed control.

Something that just goes cover to cover and takes years to be ready for the final chapters. From "I've never picked up a golf club in my life" to the player who is looking to learn the shots and techniques to go low on the most difficult courses in the world.

An encyclopedia of the golf swing and shots. I would buy this in a heartbeat.

That's one of the coolest ideas I've ever heard of!!!! In theory, if the golfer didn't get better they would never see the end of the book, but if they did, they would constantly be exposed to more involved technique! Great Idea!

Personally I like lots of pictures. I have several instruction books and they best one is Hogan's Five fundamentals. My one gripe about the book is the lack of good pictures, granted it may not have been possible at the time of printing. As far as illustrating what they are teaching I have to credit David leadbetter, event though his instructions have never really helped me. So there you go, lots and lots of pictures...
Blew up the bag, not sure what's going in next...
    Any suggestions?
