Back to reality...

Played Bethpage Blue yesterday for the first time and what an experience. Winds were strong, as soon as the ball went up, crosswinds took it.

Some highlights, I shot my 2nd ever birdie. I was actually hitting my 3 iron!!! granted it's one of those hybrid irons, it felt good to make solid contact.

Shot 104 on a par 72. It was a humbling experience and a reminder of how much I need to work on my game.

I normally play a local course par 67 slope rating of 108 and shoot in the 90's. Blue is 122, yikes!!!

So many dog left and right holes, it's scary.

All in all, it was great to be out in January playing golf.

Wish I could play it! I'd be afraid to see what my score would be though! Congrats on the 2nd birdie!

Sorry, no pics. Will make sure I bring my camera next time though. The course is beautiful. I can only imagine what Black is like.

It was a good thing I had a rangefinder though becuase Bethpage doesn't have yeardage markers (at least I didn't see any on blue or yellow). They might have them on the other courses. I've also heard that some courses have the yardages marked on the sprinkler heads?

yeah, gotta love this January weather. But I think it is supposed to rain this weekend. but then again, I check weather.com everyday and it is always changing.

The Black is awesome. I've been playing it in computer simulation for a couple of years now, and we just got a new update of the course this year. I'ts one of the few real course recreations we have that can play as hard on the computer as it does in real life. It would be fascinating to play the real course, although everything I've read says that it's not recommended for anyone who plays to greater than a 10 handicap. Attached are a couple of screenies of the course, one on the 18th tee, the 2nd on the putting green by the clubhouse....

Nice hole for a sim, looks like the designer wants you to hit it on the right side of the fairway so you have to deal with those greenside bunkers. The left side seems to more trouble off the tee but rewarding for your approach shot.

does playing the sims help with your course management skills?
