The no.1 Destination in the States...

...to spend 3 months or so ?

Am currently applying to do Junior Golf Coaching but cannot figure out where I would most like to do it.

Factors that would influence my decision would be:

1) Temperature; I don't think I would like this humidity people speak of. Don't get me wrong, I like the warmth; but anything more than, say, 30 degrees C. will get to me.

2) People. In which State(s) are people viewed as being the nicest/most welcoming, most friendly, etc.

3) Living expenses; Which areas/States will cost me the most money.

4) Girls. I intend to try and hook up with some nice laydeez whilst I am there, hopefully. Are Cali girls more respondant to tall, handsome UK/Irish lads than others, for example..?!

5) Theme Parks. I really wanna experience Disney World before I die...and preferably as soon as poss. If I could tie it in with doing this, then all the better. Where am I best to go for this: Florida or Cali ?

6) Blue Whales. Recently watched a documentary about them and was intrigued. They can be viewed off the Californian coast from April through September and so that would be a big draw if I could kill two birds with one stone by doing that.

7) Ideally I would like to go to either Florida or Cali. I think that the weather would be more favourable to me at this time if residing in Cali, am I right ?!
I have done the NY thing and would wish to perhaps go to one of these other two States after doing the NYC experience.

Any/all views appreciated,
A.

Most of the Southern states are humid, anything east of central texas. Florida is pretty nasty in the summer time. texas is freaking hot as hell.

I lived in California for 30 years, many, many good looking women there. You shouldnt have a problem anywhere because of your accent (most women here will find that intriguing) make sure they are female first before making any moves, this applys mainly to California.

California, they have so many amusement parks, Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, and so much more (this is in the LA area)

I went on a few whale watching trips and you can do it in the LA area as well. Marina Del Rey has some whale watching boats that leave out of there daily.

Forget Florida, if you like to be hot and sweaty then go there. The bay area has some of the nicest weather in the summer time, minimal humidity and rarely reaches over 100* F. Los Angeles has decent weather but it can get hot but usually not for many days in a row, but no humidity so it is bareable.

Honestly it sounds like your mind is already made up. Go to California, most people here in the states that visit or move to California never leave. California has its fair share of ups and downs but there is so much to do you cannot go wrong, and tons and tons of great golf courses. The only draw back is it is expensive as compared to Florida.

Ask away, I have lived in Southern California, Northern California, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Nevada (military) I have also visted every state in the US.

Alot may depend on which three months or so you are looking at. You will find a portion of the middle or northern states to not be to conducive to golf in the winter months. While in my experience, #3 is a compliment to # 2, where as most geographic areas with lower cost of living tend to have nicer people IMO, it is likely in contrast to the remaining. Where you may not likely find alot of the other in areas where cost of living is low.

If you are narrowing it down to FL or CA, you will likely find #2 and #3 a little more difficult to find, and quite possibly #1 depending on the time of the year. Realize Humidity is not terribly bad unless accompanied by heat, but it certainly makes a difference. So for example, I have lived in PA (or VA), KS, and AZ. In the middle of the summer they usually feel about the same due to humidity, where with temperature PA (and VA) are in the low nineties, KS is in the low 100's, and AZ is more up around 110 but bone dry. Weight the two together. If you are going during anytime but the Winter, you may likely find all you are looking for in some of the more middle to northern states, and 3 months is a long time, so you could take a plane to Disney World or Disneyland for well, and I mean well, under the money you save in cost of living. Personally I have been to Disneyland as well as Orlando. If you want amusement parks go to Orlando. However, you will find a big culture shock in #2 when you are not in the amusement parks, as Orlando is also the home of some of the rudest people I have met if you travel away from the resorts or chains. While we were there, they were nice at the Grand Cypress, Amusement parks, and golf courses, but when you ventured to restaurants that were not big chain, smaller hotels like even Marriotts, and retail areas it made for quite an adventure in itself. It is very likely I may never go back to Orlando again. So for pleasurable experience and over all entertainment, I would likely say California. But again, you could go to surrounding areas from Orlando and drive in.

BTW, I have been through every state but Hawaii and Alaska, and am more attracted to scenery. I would likely say Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Arizona are my 3 favorites. The southeastern part of PA would put you in a location to see alot of the major cities in a Short period of time. Virginia, around DC, is very nice as well, and probably more conducive to Golf, yet still would allow for short travel excursions, and would allow you to experience American History like no other. Although it is built on a swamp, so the humidity is terrible. California would certainly be up there, although I would likely be more attracted to the Northern Regions, where you would likely find more to your liking in the Southern regions.

California. More specifically.. Southern California. Although I hate encouraging people to come here (since it's crowded enough) I have to say that I dont want to live anywhere else. As for girls.. as was mentioned the accent will attract many. About two weeks ago I walked by two pretty girls in a music store that were sitting there with big grins on their faces while they talked to this British guy. Saying how his accent was so cool and stuff. I swear, you guys have it easy too; they will talk to you. They can tell by your style that you aren't from around, so they will attempt to find out if you have a "cute" accent.

Lucky...

Looks like you're going to have to weigh costs v. humidity.

California is pretty expensive. Three months there would be great because it's such a large, diverse state, top to bottom and the weather is pretty consistent, if you can avoid the fires and subsequent mudslides. But it will cost you.

Florida is cheaper, and probably a little less diverse top to bottom (at least from a geological standpoint) but if you've visited New York and Cuba, you've been to Southern Florida.

You'll have a good time either way you go. Have fun.

I will agree with what BoarderDave said. I've heard from a number of women that they find accents in general "intriguing". I find accents on women to be hot. Not all of them, but a lot. So why wouldn't women find a similar feeling in men?

I lived in San Diego for 15 years and there are MANY beautiful women there. The thing with SD and much of Cali in general, is that it attracts people from all over the country. You get many different flavors. I do however find southern cali women to be stuck up. Of course, not all of them. But I think you will find this behavior in other cities as well. It just seems pronounced. I had a friend who lived in Jersey who moved to SD for a couple of years and told me how he it was so much easier to talk to women back in Jersey than it was in SD. But again, I think these "I'm better than you" types exist everywhere.

Demon, I spent two years in Texas and found the women there to rival some of the best looking I've seen. Not too shabby.

Good luck, Andy. So Cal is an amazing place and everyone it seems wants to be there. Have fun deciding!

LOL, the only reason why I use DEMON is because the first two letters are my first name and the last three are the first three of my last name.

I wouldnt know, I am either with my four kids, on the golf course, or in a golf store. I have very young kids so I tend to stay home a lot. The last time my wife and I had a night out was the last christmas party (2005) and tomorrow is our other christmas party (everyone had a conflict so its late this year). Neither of us smoke or drink and I cant even remember the last time we went to the movies together. I think it was to see starwars episode 1 while she was pregnant with our first. Most of the time we take turns taking the kids to the movies and its always stupid kiddie movies.

Yeah, well I was in high school at the time so it was different. I was always around them. At least you have time to golf!

My wife knew what she was getting into when we got married. I used to hit balls everyday and practiced an additional 2 hours after the range session. It started to get a little too expensive once we had two kids and I cut back to three times a week and my game didnt suffer at all so I stuck with it for a while.
