We bitch and moan about our golf. How about Paul Lawrie and Barry Lane in Portugal? Both dudes managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, blowing it majorly over the last 2 holes to gift the tournament to Paul Broadhurst. Nice to see this dude win, but what a shocker for the other guys. They say the closing holes at Oitavos Golfe, Quinta da Marinha (anyone played it??) are a tough examination, but triple bogey and quintiple bogey, now that's weekend hacker stuff. A bogey would have got Lane in a play-off. That's 3 eight irons and 2 putts!!

Yah. That was something to watch. Mister Quintuple looked like he was either going to have a stroke, or pull out a gun and end it all. Thankfully, the 14 club limit left no room for the assault rifle.

I would have left the gap wedge in the locker. I can't believe that he took a drop onto an unplayable lie. Does that sound right?

I wonder if the caddy had any advice or was he "picture no sound". No doubt the locker room was a wonderful place to be afterwards. I'm surprised at Lane, he's usually a "big shot, big balls" type guy. Bad enough doing this at any time, but last on the course, tournament hanging over you, and that happens. I'd be straight onto the whiskey for a week!!

But heck, I forgot, he's English. He probably had a cup of tea!!
