What is your best Master's Memory?

Although I have been to Augusta three times, my most exciting memories have been from watching on TV...My top three memories are:

1) 1986. Seeing big Jack charge on the backside and win. I was jumping up and down like a kid as he made one spectacular shot after another...

2) Last year. Although I don't have strong feelings for or against Phil - his back nine was One for the Ages....gripping drama...One of the greatest closing charges in golf history - after they changed the course and observers said the course was screwed up. How utterly wrong they were. Another piece of brilliance on the part of AN's membership...

3) 1996. The Agony and the Ecstasy. Greg Norman epitomizes class in my view. To see how he handled himself after blowing such a big lead to Faldo was incredible. It was also agonizing to watch him let the lead slip away (like Levet in the Open Championship). I am a big Nick Faldo fan and the man was a Machine on that Sunday afternoon. You could see he was in Total Control - charging in a precise, workmanlike fashion...while at the same time - the poor Shark is drowning...Watching a player your admire take total command, while another you love just fall to pieces. The most emotional Master's ever...

First, I'll go along with your number 3. I actually felt like turning off the tv at times because it was so difficult to watch.

Partly because of geography I'm sure, but Crenshaw's win in 1995 stands out for me. As most of you probably know, he had been a pallbearer in Harvey Penick's funeral the day before the first round and then somehow held it together for the win. Stories of courage and chartacter stay with me longer than stories of skill.

For me it's gotta be Wier's win, followed my Philly's last year. I dont think I have ever been as pumped as I was when I saw those giys win.

My favorite Masters memory was when I sank that putt on the 72nd hole to win it all. I'll never forget the roar of the crowd, the smell of the green jacket. Sure it pissed everyone off when I decided the skip the press conference to have sex with Pam Anderson, but let me tell you something, she does it all... ALL I TELL YOU!!!! Then I woke up.

....the Masters isn't one of my favorite tournaments. Maybe it's the hype, maybe the format of the course. I don't know, it really doesn't interest me as much as some of the other tournaments do...

Naturally enough, when Weir won. I haven't watched that many Masters as I only took up watching golf a few years ago, but watching him win was riveting. I actually flicked it on for just a minute midday Sunday to see how he was doing...and then didn't leave my chair until Tiger put the jacket on him.

I think I missed last year because I ended up playing. Oops.

I have only been playing golf a few years, so have little to base my answer on, but...

Phil's win last year. He's one of my favorite golfers, so me and the son were pulling pretty hard for him.

The recent talk by the masters about instantiating their own equipment restrictions on the players. I think they are pretty pompous and self-absorbed.

The femenazi campagne against them, and the masters' thumb of the nose.

I don't know. Maybe its all the flowers. I like the way the creek is integrated with the holes, but the tee boxes that are out in the middle of nowhere. I think I just prefer other courses.

Some of this stigma stems from the whole "auora" that Augusta gives off. Old, snotty men making the decisions. No women. Rules, rules, rules...

Maybe i'm just abrasive....

Strange, but when I read the thread topic, my first thought was TV. I've only been to the Masters once when a friend's boss couldn't make it and gave him the tickets, but the entire experience overwhelms any specific moment. Maybe when some asshat set off a loudspeaker somewhere in the woods at the exact moment Jack was set to putt. I got to see Ian Woosnam win that year.

Jack's win in 1986 stands out as my favorite, although that may be more a sign of age. Winning one for us old guys.
