Highlights from the Milwaukee Golf Show....

Well aside from FINALLY meeting so many of you Shot Talkers (I didn't know we had our own hat!).

You guys and "signifigant others" were awsome...I wish we all coulda spent more time together....maybe over a beer or two?

    The weekend was a pleasure...

We had a field of 60-70 year old women who were/are tennis players who decided to turn to golf because they're getting older...

We had a couple of these ladies hitting in the 90 mph swing speed (which is huge!).

I had a female softball coach who came in claiming she could hit the ball 270 show up.....we obviously thought she was full of crap...put her on a monitor....her first ball was 252........CARRY!

We had a kid (early 20's) who was here last year....kept checking out an OEM driver...and at $5.00 a demo, would put it up against ours.....he brought in Taylor-Mades, Titleist, Pings, Orlimars, Bridgestones....and each time, the TourSwing was blowing by his stuff by 20 yards or more He claimed the monitors were wrong.....refused to believe that fitted components are better......it finally got to the point where Bill Shroeder (former Green Bay Packer wide receiver and member on our Long Drive team) said: "Dude! What is your problem??? You spent what??? $40 to be beaten every time??? Don't you realize these guys KNOW their s@*%t and wouldn't expose themselves if they thought there was anything better????

The kid kept insisting that he hits farther...based on his local Golf Galaxy machine....I tried to explain that those were not alway calibrated and can be "adjusted" to increase distance....a common trick.

The kid shot out: "well you get PAID to play and sell their stuff"....where Bill Said: "No, I don't get paid a penny other than what I earn in actual competitions against the other manufacturers.......I can play anything on the planet.....but I use these (TourSwing)."

Kid came back and said: "well these machines are wrong.".

We tried to explain if the machine is wrong for one, it would be proportionally wrong for others......and he just couldn't grasp it....and was now rasing his voice in front of all the spectators...

So Bill said to him...."ok, you tell me you hit 300+......right? you get your driver of choice.....I will hit this childs "snoopy" driver....on my knees and out drive ya."

"No one touches the machine....you standing up....driver of your choice...me on my knees with a 32" snoopy driver."

    Kid agreed....

By now, EVERYONE was standing around and watching as word spread of the challenge...

Kid gets up.....we tell him picks his clubs....and take the best of five swings.

Best one was 244 yards with a Cobra L4V.

Bill gets on his knees and first drive with the kids Snoopy driver went 283 yards.

    "Point, Set, Match".

    Everyone went wild.

But the best thing that happened was we had a guy who was blind....in a league for blind golfers...along with his "caddie" who helps position him.

He came up tpo us with the white cane....and I know Warbird and others can attest that this event is loud....but when he walked up to the monitor, it was dead quiet.

He got up.....We put his driver next to the ball so he knew where everything was...he had a caddy that told him to turn to the right or left a few degrees...and then said "Now".

His firs drive went 214 straight down the middle.

    A gorgeous swing.

By the time we got done with him he was averaging 248.....and straight....I gave him the set up at cost.....

I'm telling ya, I don't think there was a dry eye in the place....

It was certainly the only booth with anything close to a crowd around it. I never did see even 1 person attempt the hole in hole contest, which was made all that much harder with the carpet pulled halfway over the hole.

WBL, you never did tell us how you did on the monitor.

  9. That inconsistent. Then the launch monitor was acting up and wouldn't spit out anything half the time until it finally quit. Last time I was on one (fall of 2006 after grooving my swing all summer) I was 95-105 mph, 2600 rpm, 14º launch angle, 150-165 mph ball speed, and carry between 240-260 yards. I was nowhere near that. Eric was 108 mph starting out and got it up to 118 mph!!!

There was a constant flow of people attempting that while i was there...i saw one person that almost made it, it was a girl that was MAYBE 9 at the most and she thinned the living crap out of it and it rolled right up and over the cup and sat about 3" away. Everyone else was trying to fly it to the hole and the way it was setup there was no way anyone that it it further than about half way to the hole was going to make it.

I was swinging right around 110, but not making solid contact at all, my smash factor was only about 135 on average and carrying like 260ish.

There was one...a girls softball coach who said she routinely hits 270.....we put her on the simulator and her first shot was a 256 carry.

She was also very easy on the eyes.

You were hitting the ball great! The inconsistancy was due more to rustyness than anything...but considering how brief your golf experience is, you swing like a seasoned veteran......your swing is very fluid and strong.

    As for your girlfriend?

    Per your comment:
"...My girlfriend said you were very informative, nice, and extremely funny!
Obviously she has incredibly good taste...

She too, was extremely nice, (and hot!), very supportive of you and the game...plus her dad golfs, and has a place in FL right?

    She's a keeper....hell, HE's a keeper too!

Thank you for the compliments about my swing...it must come naturally because i havent worked on anything more than curing my natural slice and now i have a hard time with hooks...o well, i gotta have something to work on at the range!

Yes she is a keeper!! I could not dream of a better woman. Her real dad lives in orlando florida and he plays golf quite a bit(I would too if i lived there). Her step-dad who lives up here plays tons of golf all over the place as he travels for his company, he is the one that really got me into this sport and sold me the clubs i have. He broke his shoulder in a motorcycle racing crash and his swing is very...unique...but he still drives the ball just as far as me and routinly outdrives me.(maybe not after i get my new driver)
