Players Championship

Just read this the article in the May issue of Golf Digest, so do you think it should be a Major or not?

It will probably never be considered a major even though it offers the strongest field, one of the highest purses, and best exemptions. There are 4 majors, four "grand slam" events. You will not see a fifth major. The only way "The Players" becomes a major is if one of the other four fall out of favor with the pro's or cease to exist.

Its the next best thing to a major, its an almost major and the best of the rest of the tournaments.

But we got too much great tradition in our game and it will never change that we have The Masters, The US Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship.

If you want 5 majors watch some Champions Tour hehe.

I try to think "out of the box" as much as I can but I cannot do it on this one...

Too much tradition and too much time with only four.

I say No, despite the fact that it does have a superb international field and very demanding course conditions.

It should be the 4th Major replacing the PGA. Hopefully one day.

Agreed - the PGA has no character, in my opinion. The Stadium Course would make a great home for a Major.

Its funny because I bring up these convos all the time with buddies. They all say nah man TPC is just as close as you can get. To be honest the best 6 fields ever to play for a regulation tournament are:
1) Masters
2) US Open
3) The Open
4) PGA
5) TPC
6) Doral!

Thats the way i have it in my book. Honestly I think Doral edges out most competition at the US Open and PGA.

Id agree with ur flomarilius about those 6, but not in that order.

1)masters
2)the open
3)us open
4)pga
5)tpc
6)doral

In that particular order.

The PGA used to have more character, as an endurance contest: back when it was 18 one day, 18 the next, and 36 the last. Now it's just another tourney.

The TPC course is too artifical looking to be a major championship venue. The PGA Championship rotates creative, beautiful parkland style courses year after year, and that is one reason why it will always remain a major.

i totally agree...

TPC has what, the 17th hole, but thats all anyone can remember... its not a major worthy course if you take that hole away...

the PGA has been on some nice courses in recent years, inluding medinah... and the courses arent all about show, like TPC... the PGA courses look more traditional...
