Latest on the Big Break

You guys watching? Well we are finally seeing why a guy with such a solid swing and ballstriking is on the "Big Break" and wasn't at Q school or the Nationwide. Cripes, Hiroshi can't putt for piss. Brian takes this thing hands down. He's got the best short game and drives the crap out of it and in the fairway.

I just wish these guys weren't all so damned boring. My goodness, watching this show is about as exciting as watching concrete dry.

Brian can get rolling if he doesn't like the guy he is playing with. He was needling Gerry for two episodes until Gerry took the walk.

Hiroshi was putting well until last night. He was leading since day 1 and now he's gone.

I was a little surprised by what transpired last night but not too much. Josh had really been coming on strong the last few episodes where Hiroshi, while still performing, was only having to do just enough to maintain his position.

This season's crop seemed different as they appeared, for the most part, to all know each other pretty damn well. And also, they ALL had some serious game.

Hiroshi was definitely having trouble with the putter. I use a belly and that's bad enough, but whenever I see a young guy with a broomstick, I think "Uh, oh, he has a bad case of the putter yips."

I thought Hiroshi putted great throughout, until last night. It wasn't just the putting last night either; it was also his swing.

Methinks it was a case of a guy with mad game, but can't really hold up under pressure.

Hiroshi choked. Period.

That's an interesting perspective, Sib. What exactly is "bad" about a belly putter, and what is worse about a broomstick?

I don't think it's necessarily about yips, but about what is easier for a person to hit and feel confident about. Is something "bad" because it's easier? By that logic, are you playing persimmons and 2-irons?

"Bad" is requiring other than a hands only on the end of a conventional length putter in order to get the putter head to swing back and forth in a relatively straight line. I predict that eventually the USGA & R&A will outlaw belly and broomstick putters.

I do have some Louisville persimmons and a 2 iron-PW set of Apex IIs. If they had decent shafts in them, and the 7-PW had any grooves left, I could play them and probably shoot right around what I'm shooting now with "advanced technology." After all, bogey golf really isn't that difficult.

wasn't Hiroshi having back problems that day? He hit some shots off the face of the earth. He still put himself in positions to score but he took more strokes on the green then a 13 year old with a victoria secret catalog.

I've not seen all the series of BB, but of the ones I've seen this has got be the most boring so far. All the guys get on with each other pretty well, no real characters or stories among them - A-Rod was too much of a caricature of a bad guy and Gerry was the only one with any backstory -, they were all pretty decent golfers, and weren't set any particularly memorable challenges.

To make it worse I think the location didn't exactly make for the most thrilling golf, especially with the calibre of players they had there. Every time they went out to play on the course it seemed to just be driver and wedge thanks to the increased distances they all enjoyed, and although seeing them hit into the hills was exciting the first couple of times, it got very old very quickly when you realised how easily they could get out. Seeing their scores last night, and the amount of birdies and eagles they've been putting up, didn't make me think 'Wow, they're the best golfers they've ever had on the show!', more like 'Wow, this must be the easiest course they've ever played!'.

Shocked to see Hiroshi go out last night, but I suspect he showed why he's never made a real impact on tournament golf despite his obvious skills. I think my whole problem with this series is that I really can't pick a single guy out of that line-up I can root for, and the final's no exception.

I don't think any of these guys can "read" greens. It's not so much their putting, they just don't play the breaks enough. And they all miss them for that reason. I thought Hiroshi hasn't been playing as well lately.

The two "hosts" drive me nuts. The STUPID comments they make like "he's got to make this to win" etc. No shit Sherlock!! Stuff that is so obvious that nothing needs to be said (or should be said). Dumbest dialog I've ever watched.

I think they need to mix in some bitchy females to make it more entertaining. Or have some guy put down an exploding ball on his competitors tee just to liven it up a little.

Funny how the guy in the background (Brian) all of a sudden has emerged as the favorite. I've had my eye on him from the start and he doesn't make huge mistakes.

Never mind reading them, one of the finalists showed us last night that he can't even hold them with a wedge in his hand and less than 100yds in!!!

I thought Hiroshi and Brian would be that last two standing....very surprised.....looks like Josh could get hot and win this thing. His wedge play is excellent, the rest of his game doesn't stand up to Brians.
