His putting was superb for 72+ holes. He caught the edge of the Hole with a putt to win, on probably the hardest finishing hole of any Major Championship course and he'd only been using a Belly putter for two weeks. He hit the pin on the par 3 in the playoff and will be back to win a Major because he's got the balls to get over a hard knock.
You may be right that Sergio gagged on every shot on the last and not just the putt, but as the thread was about putting I stuck to that part of Sergio's game. Sure, he was in front for nearly 72 holes. Sure his putting over the course of the championship was good, but when he really needed to sink one for the gold, he missed. Whether it was a good stroke and a bad read or just a bad stoke ie irrelevant. For whatever reason, he blew a putt to win the Open outright. Then he choked to death in the playoff. And as for you saying he has the balls to get over a hard knock, why did he fall completely apart after hitting that flag in the playoff, then whinge like a hissy schoolgirl about it after he lost? He's a spoilt little brat who tries to find anything else to blame for his lack of success other than his own ineptitude. He will not win a major unless he accepts that his current game has flaws (putting) that need to be addressed. Blaming bad bounces and 'good putts that didn't go in' is not showing the balls to get over a hard knock.
As for your personal attack on my golfing knowledge, you are entitled to your opinion. But I think anyone who calls themselves a golfer but thinks Sergio is a good putter needs to have a good hard look at themselves. You are completely clueless.

fig, youve been in more than one personal arguement here now haven't u? chill dude.

and as for Sergio coming in after hitting the pin lookin for excuses, he wasn't, he said he was surprised how you could hit so many good shots (even you can aknowledge that hitting a pin on a par3 is a good shot?) and not win the tourney.

He has admitted time after time that his putting needs to be better, maybe not better, but he needs to hole more putts. He definately has a great stroke and rolls the ball well, it just doesnt go in the hole. I think you need to open your eyes, chill out, and stop blaming a guy for playing well there and not winning. He could kick your ass up and down a golf course, and probly would love to smack you in the face for being such an ******* to someone you dont even know.

After Holmes' win in the FBR, I predict sales of this manhole-cover-on-a-stick will go through the roof.

I see alot of pros who hit beautiful putts (stroke and distance) but just miss right or left. I think some read greens better then others.

I'd be interested in seeing a pro practice his putting on a putting green. How consistent they would be? If they had a perfect read should they always make that putt?

Your appraisal of Sergio's state of mind and what he said sure sounds like someone makng excuses to me. As for the personal argument comment, have a look at both posts before telling me to chill. I have come out and stated an opinion about Sergio being a choker and a dud, which is backed up by his very ordinary record on tour, and someone comes out and launches a personal attack on me about my so called lack of knowledge. Last time I looked this was a golf forum where people are free to state their opinions as long as they aren't offensive. My comments were certainly not personally offensive to anyone who uses this forum. And your comment about Sergio kicking my arse on the golf course, big deal. He certainly should be able to whip me on course or he would definitely be in the wrong profession. Although I think I would have no trouble taking care of business with someone like him off course.

Why are you sticking up for him anyway? I can understand the pom getting defensive as Sergio is a bit of a hero to the Euro's, but I would have thought you would have taken a leaf out of the book of the entire US Ryder Cup team, who all can't stand his petulant, childish behaviour on and off the course. A quote from one of the players last Ryder Cup said it all "We got beat by 11 men and one little boy".

P.S. I have an answer to Sergios question about hitting so many good shots and not winning the tourney. It's the old adage 'drive for show and putt for dough"

Haha I think they should outlaw long, and belly putters. I think these guys should have to work harder to make their stroke work with a regular putter.
