Sergio's putter .....

looks like somebody welded the hatch from an old T55 main battle tank to a piece of rebar and added a grip.

I'm glad he went back to a belly putter but WTF? Does anyone really need a putter head that big?

It's just another example of Sergios sad slide into oblivion. Throughout the history of the game no major winners have used a long putter. Long putters are for players with no confidence. To win majors you need a flawless stroke and supreme confidence in your flat stick. Sergio obviously has neither any more. Even last years Open showed that Sergio can't hold it together on the greens for 72 holes. His missed putt for the win on the 72nd green was abyssmal and one that any major champion would have snaffled.

Way off FJ.

It wasn't his putt on 18 that lost him the Open, it started with his drive, left himself too far away for his second, of which he also hit a poorish shot. His bunker shot from distance was quite good, and I will argue that his putt was not that poor. He caught the hole on a difficult putt. It certainly wasn't a 3ft. gimme that was yipped. Some days those putts go in.

It's the Taylormade/Rossa Monza Spider putter.

It's currently the #1 putter model in play this week @ the FBR Open and #2 last week at the Buick, which was its first week debut on tour.

It's fugly, but I saw at least 5 players at the FBR on TV using this thing, either as a belly or conventional length putter.

I'd probably use it too, if they paid me enough.

Now I know what you know about golf could be written on the back of a postage stamp, that is total BS. If Sergio had won last years Open that would have ranked up there as one of the best Major Victories ever. He was under Par from the 2nd Tee on Thursday all the way through. His putting was superb for 72+ holes. He caught the edge of the Hole with a putt to win, on probably the hardest finishing hole of any Major Championship course and he'd only been using a Belly putter for two weeks. He hit the pin on the par 3 in the playoff and will be back to win a Major because he's got the balls to get over a hard knock.

Not too much, I don't want to lose my amateur status.

It would be more interesting to me to see how many players change putters in a season and win either regular tour events or majors.

For some reason it sticks in my head that you more often see a player change putters and win at say the FBR open than you would see a player change putters and win the US Open or the Open Championship.

I gues what I am trying to say is that ball striking between players on the PGA tour is like splitting hairs, but wins and missed cuts go with how your putting is.
