Sergio's putter......

Part.... 5?

Looks like Sergio has switched putter styles yet again. A fat grip a la Choi and an Anser style blade head?

This was discussed some this morning on XM "Making The Turn"...basically, Sergio will never be a real factor because it's never his fault. He always blames something else, in this case his putter.

By now he should realize, it's not the arrow....

They were saying on Golf Central last night that he ranked 17th in overall putting stats last year. It is his ball striking that is killing him. You aren't going to make putts on championship greens if you aren't stiffin em. Seems like everytime I see him lining up a birdie put he is half way across the planet from the hole.

He also misses more than his share from 6 feet and in. I say he has to pick one putter and putting style and stick with it and work his butt off to improve. To be honest,he doesn't look motivated to me. Tons of natural talent though.

Yep, 17th in putts per round, and 15th in putts per GIR. Shocking, since so many blame his putting for his lack of victories. Problem is, he blames his putting. Look at the Open Championship last year. He putted well all day on Sunday, except when he needed to. His ball-striking was excellent all day, except when he needed it to be. It's all about mental toughness at the level those guys are playing. Tiger has it, Sergio doesn't.

Sergio will win a major, and soon.

He's probably the 2nd best golfer in the world IMO.

Monty should have won at least two major's. He's thrown away the US Open twice!!! If he would have had one handed to him on a plate like he managed to do for Geoff Ogivily then he would have won a handful by now.

Anyhow Monty will be happy with his European order of merits and all those Ryder Cup WINNERS medals!!! Wouldn't be suprised if he still manages to get one before the end of his Career more than likely the US Open.

I think he realize's that his putting is his biggest problem and he's still searching for the style he feels best with. He improved from 150+ in putting stats to top 20 last season so he's going the right way. IMO, Tee to Green Sergio is the best ball striker on Tour.

EDIT;- I think Eracer has hit the nail on the head, mental toughess. When he plays Ryder Cup matches he has that in abundence but when he's out there on his own he needs to toughen up!!!

I agree. I think he's the only guy that can really challenge Tiger if he could ever get his head screwed on straight.

Agree with Eracer, Sergio's problem is between the ears. His ranking and money stats would suggest that he's a good putter, but he isn't a great putter as he can't get it done when it counts. He also won't accept any blame for his losses. Last year all he would talk about was hitting the flagstick in the playoff and getting a rotten bounce. Never mind that he missed a 6 foot putt to win outright that Harrington had shown wasn't a tough putt 10 minutes earlier. Sergio is a choker and will never win a major.

And as for challenging Tiger, Tiger's 'I just bludgeoned tweetie bird' text message sent just after stomping him in the Open of 2006 shows how worried Tiger is about Sergio.
