At the USBO last year we followed Camilo Villegas and Bubba Dickerson (now back on the Nationwide tour) around. Camilo crushed one down the center and Dickerson outdrove him by 20 yards but was in the deep rough on the right side, five feet from us. He pulled out a hybrid and put it on the green from over 240 out and you couldn't even see the ball down in that deep grass. Those guys have to be witnessed to be believed.

And you guys got to see Tiger? Damn...

It had to go at least 310. Beautiful.

Then to prove he was a pro, hits wedge to ten feet, and sinks the putt. It was a perfectly played hole, one I'd be proud of all season. I mean really, how often do you string together two or three perfect shots? I play to a five, and I only do it a couple times a year.
And, then, to prove it is no fluke, it's nothing for these guys to do it 5 and 6 holes in a row. That's why I always get a chuckle at "scratch" club golfers who start thinking that they have the game to go on tour.

I spent yesterday at the AT&T. What amazed me was watching them on the driving range. They are hitting shots I would brag about and are about to play a competition and have a coach there changing little things in their swing, changes that would have me chunking it 10 yards.

What's neat is to follow an "unpopular" group. We walked with Bob Estes and Frederick Jacobson. Both out of contention but a couple under. It was neat because we got front row seats for every shot and they started noticing us and making comments to us.

It was a lot of fun.

The winner of the European Open this week was Ross Fisher. He won by a Tigeresque 7 shots. The guy was an absolute pleasure to watch, has a great game and was very appreciative of the gallery, waving and smiling as he left the green, as opposed to some who barely feather the peak of their visor.

Anyways.. on day 3, he absolutely melted a drive on number 9 (I think) downwind over 420 yards, in the land of big hitters the on course commentator just about wet himself as he witnessed the ball scamper 30 yards short of the green.

Btw I'm gonna pick this guy as 1 of my picks for The Open

My first experience watching the pros was actually working my first tournament in 1999. I started on Saturday, and my job was to stand at the bend of the dog-leg hole 7, helping spot any balls that blow off the left side. I'm at about 300 yards from the tee, maybe a little more. All day I'm watching them hit toward me, but nobody is getting close. I spot several off the side and get to talk with a few of the players. Then John Daly takes his turn. I hear the "CLINK" and immediately lose sight of the ball - higher than any so far, went just above the tree line and I can't see it. So I'm looking around, where is it, where is it, where is it....seemed like forever, and I'm still wondering where it is...I hope I don't have to show him...then I hear the "BUP" of its first bounce on the fairway...20 yards past where I'm standing...I've never seen anything like that before or since. Holy crap that drive went far.

I think everyone that thinks they hit it 300+ yards should have to go stand in the path of a pro all day and see what 300-325 really looks like.
