AT&T National (Tiger's Tourney)

Living in the DC Area I was soooo excited to see us get a tournament back. I have gone from high to low though. Looking at the field this week makes me want to vomit. This area has a lot of great courses, great players and great golf fans. We have a US Open venue, big crowds and the host of hosts. The field for this weeks tourney is crap. I'll list all the players that are missing. I'm interested what you all feel are the reasons and let me know if anyone plans on attending the tournament.

Players Missing

Vijay Singh (Whore for tournaments where is he at?)
Phil (didn't make the cut last year, one of his major sponsors is minutes away and has a big part in sponsoring the tourney)
Ernie Els (understandable doesn't play two weeks before a major although he won an open on this course)
Sergio (European Open)
Luke Donald (European Open)

The Euros I can understand, big tournament for them this week. Here are some names that shock me though

Bubba Watson, Kenny Perry, Tom Lehman, Boo Weely. Come on guys we will lose this tournament if this weak field keeps showing up.

My wife and I are going to try to make it out one day this weekend.

As for the field my guess is that there are a few guys that don't want to deal with DC in July. I don't blame them, it has the potential to be wicked hot and humid.

I can't figure out why they don't want to play to get a look at the course since the Open will be here in a couple years. Seems like it would be a good opportunity.

I know it is hot but they play in Texas in May, that has got to be hot, the players in May now in Fla. I think it is the two weeks before a major and Tiger not being there that are killing it. Aaron Baddely withdrew today. He was one of the few that I wanted to see

Last year the field was better

Tiger
Phil
Geoff Ogilvy
Vijay
John Daly

They are looking for alternate sites for 10 and 11 when Congressional is unavailable. They are thinking of going outside the DC Area, I fear that if they do we will never get it back. Have fun out there this weekend.

You are right about Texas. However, I grew up in Dallas and the humidity here is so bad. I'd rather have over a 100 there to 90 here any day.

I agree that if they take it away for a year of two it won't come back. I had heard that Tiger was really happy with the area last year, I hope missing a year doesn't make him forget how good it was.

You and me both. I fully expect him to follow through with these plans for the second Tiger Wood Learning Center. The DC area could really use that. I think if he puts one of those here you will see him spending a lot time in this area. I just remember Rich Beems quote last year in the post where he said

" Beem said he believes that if Tiger hosted a tournament at Falls Road Golf Course he would get an elite field. That's quite a compliment, but Tiger doesn't want to host anything across the street. Not interested."

That doesn't seem to be ringing true this year. The event is still Tiger's the course is still great but no one showed up this year. Oh well, it will still be fun for us golf crazies.

I'm guessing its going to be a bit dull. . .Tiger said this morning on TGC that flying creates mucho swelling in his knee. So he's not even showing up.

You mean Amtrak wouldn't put a special train together to get Tiger to his own tourney? Unbelievable!

They don't need a special train. He lives in Fl, all he has to do is put his car on the train like all the snowbirds and they'll drop him off in DC.

I think they would find a nice place for "Privacy" to dock if he really wanted to be in the DC area for the tournament.

I doubt it... I played there yesterday and ate the course up. 1 under through 7 and ended up with a 75. 2 doubles in a row too. All from the tips.

Although that is my favorite course in the area by far. I would rather play Falls than any other public course and most private ones..
