Perry was considered iffy for the tournament after suffering a scratched cornea on Tuesday. His doctors advised him not to wear his contact lenses for a week, but Perry, saying he couldn't see well enough to play without eyewear, and didn't consider glasses an option, teed off Thursday wearing the contacts.
What? He "didn't consider glasses an option"?!?!? What kind of B.S. is that?

Did Perry never see Tom Kite play on the PGA Tour? If Kite could win the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in the howling wind with those Coke bottle glasses, please explain why Perry couldn't go to Lenscrafters and pick out some specs that would stay on his face.

I'm beginning to suspect that there is something more to Perry's avoidance of majors. And if I was Azinger, I would be seriously concerned about Perry's ability to hold up under the pressure of a big time event.

It's harder to play with glasses than you think. I've tried a couple times and it's hard.

It is tough. I had to really make adjustments to play with sun glasses on. I understand why he withdrew... it just seems like it's one thing after another with the majors and him.

If it was just the PGA, I might be more understanding. But he's skipped the British, the U.S. Open, and now (essentially) the PGA.

Do you think Tiger, Phil, Adam Scott, or Padraig Harrington would w.d.? Or would they put on some glasses and try?

Somethin' ain't right here.

EDIT: And I've played with both glasses and contacts. And I swap out sunglasses all the time. Is it the most convenient option to play with glasses? No. I much prefer contacts and no sunglasses. But its definitely doable.

Why would you want to compete in a major while you're not 100% capable of performing your best.

Anyway, I don't even know why anyone get's on Kenny Perry about not playing majors. It's essentially his choice. He's 44 years old? He's already won what, 4 tournaments this year?

For the same reason that Tiger played with fractures in his leg, and that Adam Scott played with a broken finger, and that Padraig Harrington played with a bad wrist.

Because its a major, and they had the drive to compete.

Perry hasn't shown that he has that. And while he has unquestionably played well, he hasn't done so on the biggest stages. I would question how he is going to hold up under the pressure of the Ryder Cup. I'm not sure I would want to be paired with him in the alternate ball round if I were on the team.

It's all part of a long-term plan to get the ROTW to underestimate his resolve. Anyone who plays him will go out aggressively (thinking that he can stand the pressure) and Perry will calmly match them shot for shot. Then he'll tune his bionic eyes and pour on the pressure.

Besides, I'd rather have Kenny Perry as my partner than Tiger, who sucks in team competition.

I'll take Tiger. Perry is 0-2-0 (W-L-H) in Ryder Cup matches.

I'll bet you a quarter that Perry wins more than 50% of his RC matches this year. Tiger is what, 7-11-2? That's 35%.

My dad, and two uncles are glasses-wearers and they post decent scores. It makes it tougher, I'm sure, but he's got a little time to practice with it before the Major.

On a side note, I played with a guy who smoked while he swang, and to prevent burning his arm with his cigarette on his backswing, as the club rose, he would flare his bottom lip to make the cigarette move higher out of harms way.
Gotta love Saskatchewan golfing.

Or his glass eye will pop out from all the Ryder Cup pressure, roll down the green, into the creek and sink never to be found. All kidding aside not being able to see the ball properly is kind of different than a bum knee, wrist or shoulder. I can see the flipside to it though if glasses could have remedied the situation but with his opening round score I don't think he was slated for the weekend anyways.

Actually, he's 10-13-2. And his pairings haven't helped his record any. (Remember the pairing with Lefty?) Perry couldn't even manage a half in 2004. (I don't dislike Perry or anything. Just questioning his decisions.)

And you're on! One shiny quarter!

(Crap. I was already conflicted because I've never liked Azinger. Now I'm rooting against Perry too. Is there any chance that Justin Leonard could win the whole thing by himself? What about with help from Jim Furyk?)

By the way, since we are on the topic, here are the current standings through the top 25:

Quote:
1 Stewart CINK
2 Phil MICKELSON
3 Kenny PERRY
4 Jim FURYK
5 Anthony KIM
6 Justin LEONARD
7 Boo WEEKLEY
8 Steve STRICKER
9 Woody AUSTIN
10 Hunter MAHAN
11 D.J. TRAHAN
12 Rocco MEDIATE
13 Sean O'HAIR
14 Zach JOHNSON
15 Brandt SNEDEKER
16 J.B. HOLMES
17 Jeff QUINNEY
18 Bart BRYANT
19 Chad CAMPBELL
20 Ben CURTIS
21 Jerry KELLY
22 Heath SLOCUM
23 Briny BAIRD
24 Paul GOYDOS
25 Bubba WATSON
I think Hunter Mahan screwed himself with that interview. After his PGA round yesterday, I doubt he has played his way on to the team, and what are the odds that Azinger will pick him. Sad thing is, I agreed with everything he said.

After his bad lasik surgery, Kevin Na just had his caddy (Don Donatello humorously enough) line him up because he couldn't even see the target. And he played ok. (I can't recall which tournament that was.)

how about u get off Kenny Perry's nuts? Seriously I dont see anybody complaining that Tiger didnt play because he's hurt. Nobody was for sure that Perry would play before it started because of his eye. Add in the fact that Kenny's 10+ years older than Tiger
