"NEW" Course layouts

I absolutely hate these (and I use the term loosely) "golf" course layouts this year. Just tell me, what is wrong with the best players on the planet shooting below par? Is this some secret Nicklaus created plot to make him think he was better? Let these guys play for God's sake. I mean the Yankees still play (this year) at Yankee stadium. They haven't moved the fences back due to the new maple bats and juiced up balls have they? Modern baseball parks are still pretty much the same distances to the fence. And why? What if there were way fewer home runs? No one would come anymore. They haven't lenthened the NFL football stadiums have they due to quarterbacks with stronger arms? Or made the basketball rims smaller so it's harder to make a 3-pointer. It would be a disaster to change the playing fields. This is how I feel about these golf course layouts. I don't even want to watch anymore. It's painful to see these great players shooting triple bogeys on every other hole. Skill doesn't win these tournaments. Luck does. No more Arnold Palmer like "charges". No one can on these rotten excuses for golf courses.

I hear you J, I was watching the PGA today and they were talking about how thick and deep the rough was. And as if that wasn't bad enough, they had raked it back towards the tee boxes to make it even more of a penalty, WTF?

I understand, but I get sick of seeing -18 winning. Hey, I can make 6 birdies a day! La dee da.

This is about endurance. This is about having the most solid and consistant game despite all other conditions.

Luck that you don't injure yourself hitting out of that and luck that you get a good bounce. None have the skill to hit consistently good shots out of that crap. I don't want to see a test of endurance. I want to see a test of good golf shot making. On courses that resemble ours only better groomed and maybe more hazards. But to take it to that level.

I was watching them take those mighty hacks to advance the ball out of the rough and thought it will be a miracle if somebody doesn't hurt themselves. I'm kind of split on it, I don't want to see -18 or more, but I don't want to see the best of the best struggle to shoot par either.

I'm mostly with dubya here. I think -6 is a decent score to expect after 4 days.

just got back from the pga. the course is ridiculous hard. i didn't see any raked grass toward the tee box though. you would seriously pray that if your ball was not in the fairway that it was in a bunker.

did see an amazing shot from al morin on #11. he was in the rough on a severe down slope for his second. 11 green is tiny and uphill. he takes iron and punches it out of a buried lie up the fairway, on to the green to 5ft away. lucky or not, it was an awesome shot.

Part of the problem on Oakland Hills is that those Donald Ross greens were never meant to be played that fast.

King Par is an unknown quantity at this point
Call me crazy, but I like it. It's a major. I thought it was supposed to be tough.

Also, in comparing it to all those other sports, I like golf because it continously gets more and more challenging. I also like the fact that you have the option to pick how tough your game will be based on which course you choose to play.

I'm going to build a golf course. It will be called the "Feel Good Golf Course". No par 4's longer then 350 yards (many around 280 yards). No par 3's longer then 155 yards (many around 125). No par 5's longer then 500 yards. No water hazards near the holes, wide fairways (rough cut short), no bunkers in the fairways, only left or right of the greens. No trees in the fairways. Huge, flat greens "just" fast enough. Many elevated tees and fairways sloping down toward the greens. No uphill shots. Giant sequoa trees around the hole course to block any wind.

This will give us hackers a real chance at a few birdies and eagles.

The word will spread about how easy it is and I'll be turning people away.

I'll make a bazillion dollars. The first year.

Anyone want to finance this?

Anyone doubt it wouldn't work?

Sounds like a plan to me But I would eliminate all par 3's, those are the work of the devil himself. Give me a 500yd par 5 & usually I can par it or at worst bogey. Give me a par 3 & I will get that same big fat 5 almost everytime.

How's about opening up the hole to 6" also? Putting is far too critical.
You can have a killer drive, excellent approach shot, best chip ever, but then miss a 4' putt & your score is doomed.

I think they already have something like this, warbirdlover. It's called The First Tee.
