IMHO: Kenny Perry is a cheat!

Why hasn't Kenny Perry had his arse kicked off the tour.

What he did in the FBR Open playoff was a blatant display of cheating. For all those who say he merely addressed the ball, an old statement made by the USGA in reference to JUmbo Ozaki is that when addressing the ball it miust be done only lightly and not in a way that improvs the lie.

Perry patted the grass down firmly three times (count em), then backed away and played a practice swing. He also 'addresed' the ball with one hand when he pressed the turf dwon three times so it was clearly not an attempt to address the ball anyway. He broke the rules and should have been called on it. He will forever be tainted as a cheat in most peoples books, no matter what spin him or his manager tries to put on it. I only wish Norman had been his playing partner at the time. If that were the case ol Kenny would have had more ot worry about losing than just two shots. His whole row of front teeth may have been in danger of waving bye bye.

He absolutely improved his area of intended swing and should have called himself on it.

I doubt he did it intentionally, to gain an advantage. Intent is what determines a "cheat". I don't believe he cheated. It was a playoff and every eye in the place was on him. Can you find a worse time to try to put one over?

No, he didn't cheat. But he definitely was in violation of the rule and should have been a 2-stroke penalty. Anyone watching the video can plainly see that you can't see his ball. By the time he actually addresses it to play, you can CLEARLY see his ball.

It doesn't help his case that Feherety drones on about how bad the lie is and that he has a huge clump of grass directly behind the ball. By the time he plays his shot, there isn't a clump at all.

I doubt he even knew what he was doing at the time. But he's still in violation of the rule and should have been called on it.

What the statute of limitations is on something like this, I'm sure has passed. So sadly, the only thing that will be taken away from him is his credibility.

The WORST part in all this is that another pro was quoted, after watching the video, as saying, "What's wrong with that? We all do it."

No wonder they can spin it so well out of the rough. Johnny had it wrong all these years. It's not the grooves, it's the fact that they just move the grass out of the way.

Its the tour. They have rules officials. If the rules officials say it OK, then its OK. The tour is about winning and money, and in the eyes of everyone who matters, this was legal. The one thing I will remember from all this is that you are pretty big drama queen with your over the top posts.

Never mind the Tour officials if you break the good old R&A rules you should be man enough to call it on yourself... couldn't see the ball when he 1st gets to it and yet it can be seen when he eventually plays it...how's he not broken rules? I'll have to learn that one I have to agree 'in my honest opinion Perry is a cheat' he cheated weather some old rules offical in his 70's saw it or not.

I cannot see how that isn't cheating??? He improves his lie by pressing the grass down behind the ball? Why not just stick your size 10 right behind it and have done with it. If I played with somebody who did that in a comp & didn't call it on themselve's I would never play with them again.

He's not in a hazard so he is allowed to ground his club behind the ball. If the ball doesnt move its perfectly legal. Yes, this will mat some of the grass down, but as long as that is not the intent then its perfectly fine.

Your allowed to ground your club Yes, but your not allowed to improve your lie...he repeatedly grounds the club improveing the lie each time and then takes the club away for a practice swing... it wouldn't have been as blatent if after grounding the club if he took the shot. However, I wouldn't agree that he needs kicking off tour but he defenetly improved his lie which is a breach of the rules and he should have incured a penalty in my opinion anyway.....

The way I see it... If he would have just played the shot as it lied when he got to the ball then he wouldn't have been able to get a clean contact on the back of the ball without grass inbetween club and ball but by the time he played it he got a good clean contact and that was soley down to improoving the lie.
