If you've never done it before....

go play a course where they hold a major championship. I'm sitting watching the US Open, played of course on Bethpage Black. It is amazing the different perspective it gives you when you have played the course.

I've told it before, but the hole at Bethpage I was most proud of was parring the number 1 handicap hole, number ten. I played it at 510 yards, and hit driver (rough) 7 iron, lob wedge to 3 feet. This morning, JB Holmes hit driver, 3/4 PW to about the same distance. Wowser.

I'm playing Erin Hills in a couple weeks & while they aren't currently holding any Majors, they are in the running & will most likely end up with either the 2017 or 2018 US Open.

I expect to play Chambers Bay at the end of August. They've got an open coming.

I played Oakmont, Pinehurst, and Pebble. It is really a lot of fun to watch the event when you can be like, "I was there the green is all but unholdable from there," then watch Phil not only hold it but spin it back. A completely different appreciation for just how good these guys are. I remember looking at a few of the fairways and thinking, there is no way to hit this, and yet the pros seem to do it day in and day out.

I played congressional last october but they are changing the blue course pretty dramatically after the AT&T this year. I got to see some of the new tee boxes they are putting in and they'll be redoing the greens. I'm going to go ahead and say that the 2011 open is going to be one of the all time greats. The course will probably 7500 yards long and the shots with water in play will have a huge affect on the tournament. When I played it there were 20-25 mph winds and the temp was about 55 degrees. I missed a three footer on 18 to shoot a 100 on the dot. My proudest acheivement that day was paring 4 in a row.

I agree, tottally awesome. My favorite thing at Oakmont was the church pews, although i hit the fairway on 3&4, I tossed a ball in on 3 and hit 7i up to the green.

While not a major, The Players is such a brutal course. I was fortunate enough to play it the day after the '98 tournament and let me tell you, I needed an ice pack for my head. I was playing probably the best golf of my life at that time and was consistently posting nothing more than 74 on an average day. I holed out a wedge on #17 for eagle....and shot 87. If you miss the fairway you are playing for bogey with that rough. For a point of reference I have a 72 and a 74 on that same course, but under normal/non-tournament conditions. You can still hit the greens out of the rough with the regular conditions, but with Tour set ups it was pitch out to mid iron distance. Just unreal.
