Another day, another golf tournament. As sort of a follow up to last weeks U.S. Open I want to comment on the logistical end of things at a PGA golf tournament.
It's amazing the amount of work that goes into an event like this. The planning goes on all year but what is so crazy is the actual behind the scenes stuff that goes on while the event is going on.
Security, catering, trash removal, special events, transportation, ticketing, parking and on and on and on.
Mind blowing, really.
The tournament this year has attracted a great field of players, Sergio Garcia and Vijay Singh are perennial favorites but it's the unsung veterans of the tour that are excelling here in Cromwell. David Toms who hasn't won since 2006 is in 3rd going into the final round at -14.
Kenny Perry who has had a lot of success in recent years is in 2nd at -15
and Paul Goydos who has 2 tour wins (The 1996 Bay Hill Invitational and the 2007 Sony Open in Hawaii) We remember him in the playoff against Sergio in the Players Championship last year. Goydos is lleading the Travelers at -16.
I'll post more later with some pics.
