Anybody see Charles Howell in that bunker?

Yesterday afternoon, I was watching the Amen Corner coverage at the office and they showed Charles Howell in the left greenside bunker at 11. He didn't have a bad lie and could not get the ball out of there. Took him 3/4 shots to simply get the ball out of the sand...he looked like a beginner...he would advance the ball about 4-5 feet and it would roll back to the center of the bunker...it shows that this can happen to anyone.

Maybe it had to do with the water on the left of the green on 11?

Edit -
Oh wait, he was in the left bunker. The water would not be in play.

I missed it, but it makes me feel better. I never had too hard of a time with bunkers till I started playing the course I am now. I've learned my lesson on a few of them, hit back out around the fringe or edge of the fairway. Some of these bunkers were just not meant to get up and down from.

I watched it. It took him 4 strokes to get out of the bunker. I was amazed at how well he kept his composure through the whole episode. He then tee'd off from 12 and went straight in the water.

Just wasn't his day.

That is what made it so baffling. You could tell that he wanted the ball to clear the edge of the bunker closest to the pin and roll from there but he kept leaving it in. When he finally hit out, his ball flew easily onto the green and stopped. It never showed a danger of going into the water on the other side.

Looked like a giant brain fart to me..
