No respect for the Canadian Open!!!

I'm heading out today to attend the Canadian Open in Hamilton, Ontario and I am absolutely amazed at one thing in particular!

There is absolutely NO RESPECT paid by the PGA to this tournament!!!!! It is the third oldest tourney on the entire planet and because two clowns named Woods and Mickelson refuse to compete the rest of the Golf "experts" and "elite" ignore it too!!
You know what kind of "pile" this is ... !!!!

Isn't that the tournement that Moe Norman won several times?

Sounds like a nice place to have a golf tournement. I have to admit that we Americans can be somewhat stupid at times. If I were Mickleson and I knew Eldrick wasn't going to be there, I'd be all over it.

Canada....oh yeah! That's Cold America.

Don't you think some of the European Tour, and many other tours feel a little dwarfed by the PGA? I guess it comes down to this, do you get the culmination of the best players in the world at the Canadian Open, or U.S. Open?

I think much of the reason is timing...Woods and Michelson are focusing on the Ryder Cup now as well as the rest of the team...I don't think it is any disrespect for the tourney itself...

This is exactly right. Just try and find a space in the calendar for this tournament that would encourage the top players to fit it into their schedule, work within the seasonal shortcomings of Canada and it's courses and not interfere with another tournaments weekend.

It just ain't happening.

Kind of like a Canadian "Greater Milwaukee Open" or whatever it's called now. The caliber of the golf seen there is still top notch from what I've seen of the players showing up. There's some real talent there.

It used to be in Mtl every other year, that was great, only 1.5 hours away. Now there's a rota.

President's cup comes to Royal Montreal next year. Definitely going

This is the SECOND OLDEST EVENT of the PGA TOUR. Years ago this tournament was considered one part of the TRIPLE CROWN. The Canadian Open, The Open Championship & The US Open. Golfers like Lee Trevino and others tried to make sure they played the Canadian Open.

Woods won it once at Glen Abbey and never came back to defend his title. WEAK

I honestly feel it is a little bit of ignorance on some of the younger golfers on the PGA Tour that keeps them from showing up. As for Phil or Woods, let me tell you that you do not need them to make your tournament. This event will get plenty of support from golf fans.

It won't get any better next year as Finchem has slotted this tournament right after The Open Championship. Not many big name players will show up then. However as I said it is still a great event to go watch, I know I have been there many times in the past.

Many many years ago, back in the 70's, the Canadian Open was sometimes considered the "5th Major". Unfortunately, since then the dates have bounced around a bit, to avoid conflicts with the majors, and the PGA doesn't do much to promote this national championship.

Yeowch...that's gonna really hurt...

And the interesting thing about it is - Canada has 13 of the world's top 100 courses - tying Scotland for 2nd place on the list. So The Canadian Open is played on one of the finest courses in the world year after year...

The timing/scheduling issue is killing it.

But when do you schedule it? There's no real good time of the year in the summer/fall. It's just a product of poor geographical stature and the growth of golf in the past 30 years.

It's not 1970 anymore...

You're probably right. I've given it some thought and they are in a quandry scheduling-wise between the Open Championship and The US Open...ideally it is played in mid-summer...

I guess I would try two weeks after the US Open...when the Buick is currently played. This is one week before the Western in Chicago which is one of the biggest non-majors and oldest tournaments on the tour. From a travel standpoint, they would probably get a pretty good field because of this too and the weather would be perfect...

That's my best guess.

just think about my Booz Allen this year.... the course was nice, but nobody showed up. they ran out of pros, so they had to start inviting college golfers to come. im not sure but i thought that none of the worlds top 50 showed up.

the best player was JB Holmes, or Ben Curtis. tied for second best player there imo was daniel chopra, thats how low our event was.
