Ryder Cup shaping up like usual

USA close in all the matches but not closing at the end. They've GOT to learn how to do that one of these years. This is really frustrating. They're playing much better but still the same results

Not quite so frustrating for some of us.

And... there's a lot of difference between "closing" (for a half) and overtaking for a win.

But we shall see what the morning brings.

It seems like the US guys are in it until the last few holes and then either the Euro guys make some spectacular shots or the US guys blow some easy ones. I can't believe some of the missed putts for wins they missed this morning.

Why would they concede a ace? Go ahead and take a shot.

That match was already dormie, so Cink/Johnson needed to win the hole to continue.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Well, I guess we know now it wasn't Hal Sutton's fault two years ago (as if that wasn't obvious to anyone with a brain). The guy got abused unmercifully last time for various decisions. It ain't the captain. The players still have to hit the shots, and the result this time is ample proof of that proposition.

2. The decision to pair Tiger and Phil last time met with huge criticism, most of it in hindsight. Well, Phil didn't play with Tiger at all this time and played with his guys, Dimarco and Toms. And he was what 0-5 or 0-4-1? The second guessing that goes on in these things after the fact by the media regarding the caption's is ludicrous. The Europeans won this year and last time because they played great. Again, it's the players who hit the shots.

Congratulations to the European team. Well played indeed!

Good analysis Smitty:

In our ST poll here, I voted for the Euros because Michelson has completely imploded since the US Open and we had several rookies on the team. He finished 0-4-1. While the rookies did not play disasterously, they definitely lost more points than they won.

One thing that does amaze me is the length of putts made by the Euros in these events...yesterday a 100 foot putt....unbelieveable.

I also indicated that for the US to have a chance it needed for Woods to sweep his matches and he barely finished over .500 at 3-2....

Nothing really changed except Monty did not play as well as he usually does. Sergio was awesome.

It was nice to see Darren Clarke go 3-0. He got a lot of support from the fans and players on both sides...

Oh well - wait until 2028...the next Yank victory....

One thing that was really neat about this Cup, from what I saw of it, was the sense of sportsmanship and camradarie among all the players. The sincere friendship shown by the American players to Darren Clarke was touching, and everywhere you looked there seemed to be a return to the sportsman-like attitude that prevailed in the old days, before the Cup became so jingoistic. One of the best things about this game is the ethics and sportsmanship with which most participants approach the game, and it was nice to see a return to that, notwithstanding that both sides want to win very badly. Also, the Irish galleries seemed very respectable and civil from what I saw. I hope our galleries perform as well two years from now.
