Angry Ryder Cup.....What's your color??

Lots of analysis on why we (USA) got our butts handed to us once again by the Euros... It's really not that difficult to figure out. Take a look at international competition in general..

We have the best (supposedly) basketball players in the world (NBA), yet we continue to lose to teams with no, very few or 2nd tier NBA players.. The Ryder Cup is no different. We have the major championship winners - Woods, Mickelson, Furyk, Campbell, et al... Who do the Euros have? Sergio and Monte? Give me a break..!

It sounds lame and soft, but the reality is those guys play for one another and their country. Our guys play for themselves. It's really the only explanation.

I know it sounds like I'm not giving the Euros credit, and that's far from the truth. They kicked our tails, and they deserve a great deal of credit for beating our team. Those guys made great plays.

My point is we have all the talent, yet we don't have a purpose or goal that transcends the individual. One would assume that purpose would be playing for the red, white and blue. Unfortunately, our guys play for the green.......

Tiger said it best a few years ago, in that he could think of a "million" reasons to play in another tournament (with a purse of $1M) than in the Ryder Cup... I guess we (the US Fans) got what we paid for.....

Red face

On the Bob and Tom radio show Monday morning, they said that the one high point for the US was that Mickelson won the wet tee-shirt contest!!!

The American Ryder Cup team is like the LA Lakers of 3 years ago - full of superstars who don't necessarily work well together as a team.

On paper the Americans should win, but clearly the European teams' "whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

You forgot to mention all our other players that played alot better than yours.
Lee Westwood destroyed his oponent on sunday and he was ill.
Paul Casey hole in one to finish one of his matches early.
David Howell birdied 4 holes in a row
Stenson played brilliantly hit the ball a long way down the middle of the fairway.
I could go on but I think I've made my point.

You're completely right, Adam. Our method of choosing the team is completely wrong. Aside from Tiger, I don't think I would have had the same team at all. Johnson played well for a rookie.

That Zach whatshisname was superb for you lot though, definitely your best player of the event.

I was impressed with the dignity of your team this time round especially after the fiasco of the previous Ryder Cup when Mickelson stormed off in a huff.

Tiger and Furyk were the only glimmer other then Zach. They need to choose the team on different priority then money or tourneys won. Some important characteristic is missing, like "able to get along well with others" or something that normal people have to have to get a job. Hey I know!!! We'll try picking the best putters next time!!!
