    Cleveland CG14 Review

Today I tested a CG14 for the first time in my life. I’m in the market for Wedges, so I went by the Pro Shop today and found a couple used ones and decided to try them. Results as follows:

    Models Reviewed:
CG14: 54º and 58º. Both with 2 Dots Bounce (Standard)

    LOOKS:
The CG14s are not particularly attractive wedges. They look kind of bulky compared to the CG12s or Vokeys. The yellow insert really does nothing to help aesthetics. The great surprise is they look great at address. Even though they have a thicker top line than I would want, it’s easy to feel comfortable looking at them from that position. I’ll give aesthetics a 7/10 due to the amazing address look.

    FEEL:
I just felt in love. Feel in the CG14 is amazing. Without looking at the ball, I could describe the ball’s trajectory just by the way I hit it. For some strange reason I took 50 shots and nailed EACH OF THEM in the sweet spot. I’ll give them an easy 9.5-10/10 on this field

    DISTANCE:
Not very impressed here. The 54º came as long as my usual Wilson Staff Tour Wedge. The 58º came around my CG10 60º Wedge distance. I’m a long hitter, so I couldn’t care less (not that I can swing my 3W 290yds ) but some might find this a little bit troublesome. Just a 6/10 in here.

    SPIN
They do have some good spin on them, but they fall back to the CG12s and don’t stand a chance next to Spin Milled Vokey’s. I thought they would be jus the same as the o”12”s due to the “Zip Grooves”, but they really don’t. I can’t spin my balls much, so the little help from other wedges could be of a benefit. I would go for 8/10 here.

    CONSITENCY:
One thing I LOVED about the wedges is the consistency I achieve in the shots. I could shoot the same shot over and over again and miss by less than five yards the exact spot. I could hit straight, straight, straight, one ball after the other.

As well, it was amazing how transition from one club to the other (54º to 58º and vice versa) was almost unnoticeable. It felt like you were hitting the exact same club but it just seem to go farther or closer depending on the case. Amazing.

    OVERALL:
I have to say it was one great surprise. The CG14s are amazing. I hadn’t been so consistent with a club in my entire life. For the short hitters, you should try and look for something else. For spin crazy, go and spend your money in some Vokeys instead. For us “average” (or “bad”) golfers who need all the help possible, this is a must. You should definitely consider these amazing clubs if you’re on the market for wedges, don’t leave them aside you’ll regret doing so.

Thanks, Xamilo. I'm in the market for wedges, and Cleveland has rebranded the women's CG-14 as Blooms this year. Rumor has it they'll be coming out in a left handed version, so I've been waiting. Demo day in two weeks...
