Callaway Tour i Ball

Forgot I had a few of these in my bag so used this ball and a Nike ONE Black yesterday (and a Laddie X on two holes). And didn't lose any!

When they say "good ball" they aren't kidding. The Tour i looked like brand new when I was done and the Nike had a smear on the cover. The Tour i was also a little longer off the tee compared to the Nike ONE Black and both these premium balls were WAY longer then the Laddie X I hit on a couple holes.

The cover holds up much better then Titleist ProV's, B330's I've tried and is as good as a TM Red.

If they weren't so expensive I'd buy more.... but for now, as the Cally commercials say....

GOOD ball!!

Re: Callaway Tour i Ball

You know I bet if Callaway would just undercut Titleist by like $6-8 a dozen they would sell a lot more. I think they are good balls as well.

Re: Callaway Tour i Ball

Agreed, the pro shop here sells used balls by the dozen. Sadly they only divide them by Brand other than ProV's, which they group the RoV's and ProV1x together.I picked up some Cally's recently that had 2 of the Tour I's in there and loved them.

And I think your right Slick, if they'd cut RoV's by just a little, their sales would soar.

I think Bridgestone should do the same thing. Why price the B330RX basically at the same pricepoint as the ProV1's?

Re: Callaway Tour i Ball

I'm playing them and love them. I started with the tour ix and they're great balls too but I like the tour i better. I hit them just a little farther than the ix (not as much roll, though) and they fell just a little bit better off the wedges and putter. Great stopping power on the greens. GOOD BALL!

And BTW: Right now they are cheaper than the ProV because if you buy a dozen you get a free 6 pack. At least that's the deal at Golf Galaxy and the pro shop at my local driving range.

Thats because its basically the same ball. Its just that its designed for slower swingspeeds, so they design it to be easier to compress.

You know what I'd like to see?

I'd like to see a bunch of your average Joe golfers play with TopFlite balls that have had the logos replaced with Nike/Calloway/Titleist, ect, etc, etc....and look at the reviews after a couple of rounds.

Re: Callaway Tour i Ball

I personally didn't care for the "i". Liked the "ix" a little better but, don't like these Callaways as much as the old HX tours or even older HX blues.

I like the Bridgestone B330s and oddly the ProV1x a lot better than the newer Callaway balls.

The placebo affect would probably be well pronounced. I play cheap assed TOP flite D2's & whatever else is on sale or I find in the woods. Not spending $25-45 a box for balls I can lose just as easily as the cheap ones & for my crappy swing won't perform any better.

I didn't like the i, but I do have a dozen of the iX. I like 'em. My short irons and wedge play is better with them I feel. I check ALOT more check from my shorter clubs with it, and the putting feels muted, which I liked.

I wouldn't pay the full retail for them, but on sale, around $36 or less, I grab 'em from time to time.

I normally play Bridgestone or TM balls.

The Reds are nice balls, but I CRUSH the RX and the S from Bridgestone.

With my mid irons down, the RX is fantastic for me.

But Callaway does have some nice offerings.. For the price the HX Hot's are just as nice as the iX I think.. If Callaway was a little cheaper than others, they'd sell a ton of balls, I agree.

Re: Callaway Tour i Ball

Played this one for a few holes until I lost it in some rough. (Ugh, I hate that). Seemed nice. Spins very well on full shots if you need that, which I do personally. Cover seemed to hold up nicely, better then the Srixon. Feel was much harder of the driver and putter then the ZUR-C (which is about the softest feeling ball made to me).

Overall, 8/10 for me. Spins enough, but I do not care for the feel.

Re: Callaway Tour i Ball

I almost bought another doz. yesterday, considering they were $39, but came with another 6 pack of the i or iX..

I skipped on them because Taylormade had a 2 dozen of the TM Red/Black for $50.. Fantastic deal on those balls for that price.

These are great balls. Huge improvement over the HXTour as far as durability is concerned

They would have to be... I don't play "cover shredder" wedges and when I tried the HXTours last year I swear the cover smeared and shredded as I was taking a wedge or short iron out of the bag before I hit the shot.

I would love to see some of the balls Phil took out of play during a round when he was playing HXTours...

I don't know about all the other average Joe golfers but this one can definitely tell the difference. I play the D2 Distance ball sometimes and actually like it, especially in the winter when the greens and fairways are soft and squishy. The D2 and other cheap distance balls give me a little extra roll. That comes in real handy in cold weather. The only drawback to a ball like that for me is it's lack of spin in the short game. When the weather warms up and the greens get fast I can tell a big difference between the D2 Distance and the Tour i. The Tour i drops and stops. The D2 Distance hits the green and keeps right on rolling. I can also tell the difference in the way they feel off the putter.

Trust me on this. I might not be able to tell the difference between a Tour i and a ProV1 if you switch the logos. I can definitely tell the difference between a premium ball and a cheap distance ball. There's a reason they charge $45 a dozen for them and it ain't all just hype.
