Thread: With the advent of the V-groove rule.....

  1. With the advent of the V-groove rule.....

Will we see big changes in the playing characteristics of the golf balls on the market? Will the premium balls be made softer with softer covers to increase spin off of v-groove clubs?

I don't think you will see this trend for another few years in the general consumer area for golf balls. It won't be until all manufacturers have gone to v groove for the general public that you will see this come about. Or if they do I could see it being a separate line of golf balls ie. V-groove high spin, or U- groove low spin etc. I for one already shred the top of the line balls as it is with the U grooves on my wedges, and if they switch the cover's to a softer material or a thinner layer it will become a bit ridiculous.

I think we will see the balls get softer. The top players don't want to give up their backspin and will go crying to the ball manufacturers to help them out. All it will take will be one company to come out with a softer ball, the others will have to follow suit or lose all their pros.

Lets say Pinnacle comes out with a softer ball, to spin better off the V grooves. Do you think Titleist will sit back watch all their pros switch over?

Re: With the advent of the V-groove rule.....

the tour pros may want to change ball characteristics. Most average golfers are interested in distance so the straight "rocks" will still be out there.

Lol, ok, bad choice of companies.

But then again, Titleist has made a fortune off being the ball of the pros. They won't sit back and watch the pros switch over to their lesser ball.
