I am a bogey golfer, and the weakest part of my game is 200-150 yards out. THat means that GIR is rare, and when I do get on, my first putt is usually pretty long, or I'll use putter from the fringe for my third.
Lately I've had a bad case of "thong disease" where I was leaving long putts short when I played on shaggy muni's. A solid milled copper putter is a really rare thing so when Chris of Sunset Beach offered a 380 gram copper billet putter for $300 I jumped on it with both feet. A milled BBC putter for that price is a steal!
I asked him to tweak it a bit to soften edges, and shaft it so that it hangs just south of square, it came in exactly how I envisioned and requested.
The headcover was one of the new snap fit things and it didn't fit into the putter slot so I PM'd him, and he said he'd fix me up. I'm expecting a new one any day.
The grip is a SSB branded grip, made by Tacki Mac and is a tad larger than I prefer, but I'm not messing with it until I get some more time in the saddle. Might swap it out for a pingman someday.
At setup, it sits nice and square with no tendancy to open or close. Clean lines without any distractions or bulges to break my focus. I like the way the pocket frames the ball without getting into my field of view, and the stable feeling on my backstroke. It's smooth and solid on contact, gives a very nice roll to the ball and it generally sends the ball right where I want. No wobble or instability on the backstroke that I get with lighter putters. Easy to push it through the ball right at the sweet spot. I want my putterhead to go right down the line on followthrough, and it seems to naturally flow that way without any concious effort.
I've got 3 rounds on it now, at 380 grams the head is really heavy, and I was afraid of it, and tentative the first round. The heavy head made distance control tough at first, but as I got used to it long lag putts started getting closer and closer, and have rolled several 20' plus balls into the cup. All 3 of those rounds have been on shaggy Bermuda greens, I don't have any time on fast bent greens yet. I don't know how the heavy head will work on those fast slippery slopes.
My usual bunch is used to seeing me with tour Scotty's and this copperhead generated a lot of positive comments. Quality is easily in line with those tour Scotty's and at a fraction of the price.
It's still in the honeymoon phase, but I believe that this puppy will make the A spot in my putter rotation.
