I would review gear that wasn't mine any time. If it sucked, you'd know.

While I don't think that it's in the best interests for OEM's/Manufacturers to give away samples to be trampled on, it's all part of the ordeal. Golf Digest doesn't label everyone a winner, but all those OEM's put big bucks into their magazine.

I would say it's 50/50. There have been items I have purchased which I loved & others have been complete garbage. My Buell motorcycle was the biggest pile of shit ever produced & led to a 3yr drawn out lemon lawsuit. They sure as hell won't ever get a favorable review from me. Didn't care for the Cleveland Halo hybrids I had either, but I like my Cleveland irons so I have no bias there one way or the other.

If you want someone's honest reivew of equipment they've bought, look and see what they have in the classifieds. If it's for sale, they didn't like it or are going through a nasty divorce.

There is a real risk in soliciting or accepting free equipment for testing because it is without checks and balances.

As one golf forum site owner (not this one) told me shortly after commencing business, "Let's face it, we're only in this for the freebies". True story.

About the only thing golfreview.com ever did halfway decent was to have a searchable database of equipment, where people could vote and write about their experiences using the gear. I know some of the reviews are garbage, but some are quite revealing.

Maybe we ought to consider doing something similar, but only allow posting by people who have been here a while.

Gear we like(d) and gear we didn't like. We could even combine it with a classified if someone is trying to get rid of one the dogs clubs that wasn't quite as good as the others.

This is something I have wanted for some tme but the software issues were more than I cared to deal with.

Vbulletin has a major upgrade coming out soon and with that there may be built in functionality for just such a system....fingers crossed.

I like this idea, hopefully as Sling mentioned it will be possible soon.
